5/18 120c Phil Humber 1-2 5.77era 1.40whip vs. Jeff Samardzija 4-1 2.89 1.17whip
5/19 615c John Danks 2-4 6.46era 1.61whip vs. Ryan Dempster 0-1 1.74era .97whip
5/20 120c Jake Peavy 4-1 2.65era .92whip vs. Paul Maholm 4-2 4.35era 1.17

Cubs have the clear pitching advantage tonight and tomorrow. Sunday you'd obviously prefer Bulldog with the way he's been throwing this year. Although he did get roughed up a bit last start, but it's still Paul Maholm he's against.

Records
Sox 18-21
Cubs 15-23

Last 10
Sox 5-5
Cubs 4-6

Both teams just kind of treading water. Sox doing a better job of it clearly. Cubs lost 3 in a row coming in.

Stats

Home Runs
Sox 38
Cubs 27

Team OPS
Sox .701
Cubs .684

Runs Scored
Sox 158
Cubs 143

Team WHIP
Sox 1.23
Cubs 1.33

Team ERA
Sox 3.89
Cubs 4.10

As with most every series this year, Cubs have the starting pitching advantage but are easily outmatched in terms of offense and bullpen. Thinking the Cubs win today but lose the next two.

You would think so, and while Dempster gave up 4 runs his last start he is due for a real clunker given the way he started out. He is also 2-4 with an ERA of nearly 5 lifetime against the Sox.

Of course, Danks' "good game" could be going 6 innings and giving up 4 runs so who knows.

Will Michael Barrett be invited out to throw out the first pitch?

Why? I thought Cubs fans were pretty happy to see him go? Would the Packers bring back Mark Chumura for Daddy/Daugher day?

He could compliment AJ on his frosted tips.

I agree Frank. Demp is very due for a 2.1 5 earned 7 hits kind of day. That said, I'd still pick the Cubs 3 vs. the Sox 3 going into the series.

Dempster pisses down his leg almost everytime / every "big" game!! My bet is, he will give up several runs to the Sox.

Sveum says Soto slight tear in meniscus. Will go on DL likely after the game.

I cannot remember being less interested in a crosstown series. Still, Cubs suck.

This. I'll still listen today, and probably catch tomorrow night because it will be on at the bar.

But meh

A couple crappy teams battling in May for the BP cup, meh. Sox win at least two and possibly sweep. Dunn has a big weekend. Dempster craps all over himself and loses in a blowout. At least Volsted pitched yesterday, so the Sox won't have him to kick around this time. Shark pitches a sold game but the bullpen loses it. LaHair continues to rake.

More likely a slight tear in his giant Vajay. Good riddance for 4-6 weeks.

Blake Lalli is up in place of Soto......so what in the hell is wrong with Clevenger? He went on the DL with a mystery injury weeks ago and its been nothing but silence. I wonder if he got popped for juicing and is sitting out during the appeal.

I bet when the Cubs go on a swing of a few AL series they will call up Rizz. Things are starting to happen. Half of the shit list from the beginning of the year is gone already.

Ger rid of Soto and Volstead and it will be complete.

Soto is gone to the DL now...and if its his meniscus that needs to be scoped then he is gone till the all star break at least. They wont rush him and his shitty bat back.

He's due for a rehab stint very soon. Anything on Lalli? Just a good receiver/emergency callup type??

Sucks though as it reduces trade value which is now nil.

Not if Humber gives a run or 2 right back....which wouldn't totally surprise me.

+1...he doesn't hit the tape measure shots the Boo-Yah's like, and he just quietly goes about his bizness...if this game had more players like that, this game would be a lot better.

Konerko is too quiet and his numbers are never mind blowing. He is just a really really good player that has done it for years. Guys like that seem to get lost in the shuffle with all of the assholes and freakshow players that pop up.

I remember when he was a prospect with the Dodgers and Reds. Nice to see when a guy actually reaches his potential. He's a pro's pro for sure.

Go Cubs!!
