I believe this was more about approach than results. Theo talked extensively about the "Cub Way" including hitters going deep into counts, as the deeper a hitter goes in a count, the more likely he is to have a positive outcome from the at bat. They want to make pitchers work and not go deep into games. They want more walks and for hitters to see enough pitches that they have a better chance in their 2nd, 3rd and possibly 4th at bats of being able to recognize a pitchers pattern and better anticipate how he may be approached. Jaramillo did not emphasise hitters going deep in counts and many hitters had few walks and were swinging early in the count regularly. He just wasn't a good fit for the organization with the philosophy they want to employ for hitting. If it were just a matter of the hitters having poor BAs and OBP's Jaramillo might well have been retained. But it appears as if he did not get on board with "The Cub Way".
