I had a huge post I was constructing which would probably have bored everyone. Here's the gist. I've been a season ticket holder since 2003. I came in with three other groups in our section. Supposedly the list had 10000 people on it in that time period. Apparently not. Here is a look at the Cubs record in the four seasons leading up to 2003 and the four seasons leading up to next season.

1999: 67-95
2000: 65-97
2001: 88-74
2002: 67-95

2009: 83-78
2010: 75-87
2011: 71-91
2012: 51-84

The 3 groups of guys I came in with in 2003 were done after last season and either the Cubs own their seats or they sold them to a business. I was at Wrigley Saturday and I now find out that a bunch of people are not renewing for next season because they can't afford to hold out until 2015. I think the Cubs will contend in 2014 but I'm in the minority. Bottom line: expect not only to see tons of empty seats at Wrigley from Opening Day on, but also expect to see tons more of previously owned season tickets get turned back to the Cubs, the season ticket holder waiting list evaporate and businesses own even more season tickets at Wrigley, unless there is some kind of restriction put in. I don't know that this affects the rich people in the bottom two levels (100/200 level) and may not even affect the next class up (400 level). But the 500 level is getting decimated: the affordable seats. I will probably stick it out if I can find another friend of mine to share the ticket burden financially-otherwise I'm out too.

Someone will take them.

Its the bottom of the market.

How do you think American fortunes are made? Buy low. Kennedy style!

Oh, I agree with buy low. But I will tell you this-I got in in 2003 in late February. And they offered me 3 sets of seats to choose from. This time, they'll be even more available. They won't go to the common season ticket holder. They'll go to a business, or to the Cubs ticket arm. I don't think fans like you or I will take 'em all.

You are giving Cub fans to much credit for individual intelligence. And that's not how the Kennedy's made their money either.

Start another thread about old bosses of yours and I'll toss in the story of how they ended up with the Merchandise Mart.

I wouldn't be shocked if they were in first place and only drew 17k for a perfect summer day.
Oh wait posted in the wrong section.
