Per Forbes, Cub franchise value down $72 Mill.
Watched NCAA Games with a guy whose family runs "bus tours" from Iowa, Wisc, etc. He was telling me business has gone down every year for the last 5 years. Not all Ricketts fault, but during the Zell years and the team did well, the Cubs basically said "F U" to some of those groups.
Also, "that crowd" of elderly people who didn't have TV's everywhere and listened to Ronnie, are dieing off.
Basically we agreed Cub love peaked in the 2003-2006 era after a 20 year huge runup from 1984 on, powered by Harry, Free National Viewing at 3 PM for after school, always an MVP type player and while everyone else built a new park, Wrigley became the ultimate collectors item.
Harry's gone, you have no idea even what channel the Cubs are on these days, No MVP and Ironically, Wrigley getting a bit steral as the Ricketts try to find more and more places to put butts in seats, pay for this, pay for that, etc.
I understand Ricketts plan right now, but as history might repeat itself, his non spending ways could catch up to him and in 2013 when he has no Z contracts and only 1 more year of Soriano money due, his attendance might fall so much, he might have to overpay again to get people back in the seats during August and Sept.
Right now, biggest stars are Len and Bob!
