Kaplan said he talked to Brad Stephens and the Mayor has offered to give the Cubs 25 acres of land if they will relocate.

The story? Nice "plant" by someone. I would just be curious to see how it would play out if the cubs ever seriously started negotiating with one of the burbs. IMO..the city would crap down their leg pretty fast and work with the cubs a hell of a lot better. Ricketts needs to grow a pair...play the game. He'd win either way.

This is nothing but a roundabout brag from Kaplan that he talked with Stevens. His saying he would give 25 acres to the Cubs is like me saying I would give my left nut to be with Kate Upton. Kaplan runs with it because he needs some way to show off a connection.

Also notice that Stevens never says the property would be given.

I imagine the Ricketts moving to Rosemont ending in a similar way to the owner of that bar in Goodfellas taking on Paul Cicero as a partner. "Hey Tommy, I wants to introduce yous to your new general manger, my little sister's oldest son Petey"

Are there 25 acres left in Rosemont? I thought the city used the rest of its remaining space on a softball field for Jennie Finch and a lifestyle mall that sold its naming rights to a bank. Maybe the Cubs could play inside the convention center. The low ceiling (for a baseball stadium) would make for interesting ground rules.

From what I heard, the public reaction on 'GN today was 10-1 for the Cubs moving. If Ricketts turns this down or doesn't explore other options, this "new" Wrigley better be amazing or he has blown the 1 chance he had at getting it right.

I really want them to move.

How does the public's opinion help? Most of those people being polled probably buy about a pair of tickets every three years. It's no different from the public lamenting the closing of a mom and pop store when it would still be open if they had shopped there instead of Walmart. It's just claptrap. After a year or two in Ricketts Stadium at Giancana Place the Cubs will draw like any losing team: 18,000-20,000 a game.

Not sure where the border is, but all along the East side of River Road are the forrest preserves.

Rosemont has an uncanny ability to annex property when needed.

There are only two examples of infinity: The universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the universe.

If you get a park for free, or virtually zero cost, on an annual basis and you get to retain almost all the revenue generated by that park it is a huge bonus to your bottom line.

Wrigley upkeep is estimated at $10 mill a year, plus capital improvements, they own very few parking lots, they are limited in concessions and many people eat and drink elsewhere, before and after the game.

Your gross income if such a move occurred would most likely increase, but this would require winning on a constant basis.

Plus , you get to sell Wrigley. Land alone for development is worth about $50 mill or more based on what zoning would allow.

But, pretty stupid for Ricketts to pull this one a week before his community meeting with a group of people who dont care if he leaves tomorrow and for the most part at these community meetings, their is a small but vocal group who seem to have the aldermans ear and they treat the Cubs like they are nuisance to the area.
