Good thing it's the Wrigley 100th anniversary this series; otherwise Ricketts would be lucky to average 15k through the gates. Only three weeks into the season, and Arizona is 5-16 (8 games back) and the Cubs are 5-12 (also 8 games back). Season is over already. In fact, the Cubs have started the last three seasons 5-12.

Montero annoys me so fucking much. Does he feel he has to try to frame every? single? pitch?

On the other hand, I guess I appreciate it, because the ump will never give him a call on account of it.

Its too bad Butkus wouldn't be able to make that leaping interception they showed in the highlite reel as they were introducing him in todays NFL. Too slow, too tiny, too white.

Kinda sorta just a little wish they would've at least made mention of Sandberg, Grace, & Sosa.

Instead we get Dempster! The legend.

Love the Cubs uniforms. The Dback uniforms suck.

Agree, 3 of the most popular Cubs in history should've received a nod. However, There may be some of Grace's one night Wrigleyville stands progeny in the stands .

I would've preferred neither of them.

Maddux before both of them. Could've had Captain Morgan sponsor a visit from Eckersley.

Bonifacio may be a worse base runner than Ryan Theriot. Very impressive resume built so far in this young season of idiocy on the bags.

It's bad enough that I was only able to find the visitor's streaming TV broadcast (and not the home call, obviously), but they just had Bud Selig in their booth .... oy vey.

They were just relating the story of Chief Johnson in re: to the game played 100 years ago today ... to hear it regaled was somewhat more entertaining than this more drab version, but the gist of it was this:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Chief_Johnson

George Howard Johnson was a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Packers from 1913 to 1915. Outside of that period, he spent time in the Western League from 1908 to 1912, and in the Pacific Coast League from 1916 through 1918.

Johnson pitched one game for the Cincinnati Reds in 1914 before jumping to the 1914 Kansas City Packers in the ongoing battle between the Federal League and Organized Baseball. He was the starting pitcher for the Packers against the Chicago Whales in the very first game played at Weeghman Park (later known as Wrigley Field) on April 23, 1914. At the close of the second inning, however, he was served with an injunction by his former club. The "Johnson Case" became one of many legal battles between the Feds and O.B. Missing half the season before the injunction was lifted, Johnson pitched for the Packers for both seasons of the Feds' existence.

@GDubCub Despite no show Cubs say Kerry Wood still employed by organization. Spokesman says he was "unable to make it today."

Pretending the Sosa era didn't happen is pretty fucking lame on the Cubs part.

I'm reasonably sure that JoeOrr could handle a bullpen better than Ventura or Renteria have so far this season.

Normally this would irritate me, but Strop was struggling. He threw a ton of pitches. I can understand why you would want to go with the lefty here.

Excellent! Great job Ricky!

Shark: 7IP 7H 2ER 2BB 5SO
Miley: 5IP 4H 3ER 3BB 7SO

Both received no decisions. W/L the best statistic to measure a pitcher!
