Wonder if Cobb County is a 'dry' county, ie, no legal alcohol sales on Sundays.
Spent a week doing training in the suburban hell of Hotlanta in June one year. Got into town on a Sunday, hit up the Publix for beer to stock the hotel mini-fridge and was greeted with signs saying No Alcohol Sales on Sunday. I accosted the nearest high-school student employee and asked where's the nearest place to purchase alcohol today. She directed me to the 24 hour Wal-Mart across the freeway. I'm, like, you mean they can sell beer and liquor a half-mile down the road and you can't? She said, no, look for guys with camper-pickups on the edges of the Wal-Mart parking lot and tell them you want to buy beer.
The new Atlanta stadium situation fits the recent trend of placing stadiums in locales where there's nothing else to do except go into the stadium and consume beer, food, etc at the actual park, eg, the new Marlins park. That's a big reason the United Center is surrounded by a wasteland of parking lots with few easy places to get food and drink. Try buying package liquor around the UC. You have to go across the freeway to the grocery store or into the west loop to a 7-11. Used to be a ghetto liquor store at Damen and Madison that was good for buying crotchable plastic bottles of CC to sneak into the UC, been gone for years now.
