I have asked this before and I am not trolling on this one. Administration made a very public point of the fact that they had developed a system wide style of play that they demanded be taught by managers of every level. We are now seeing players who have played on every level so there should be some common stylistic traits that are readily apparent. I am not as conversant with non MLB players as several of you. Can any of you point to anything in the way these players hit, run the bases, play defense, pitch, etc. that would brand them as specifically growing up in the Cub farm system?

You have to be a SS that can hit but plays minus defense.

They have a book, I'm not sure it's ever made its way onto the internet though.

Rizzo seems like a smart player.

Playing smart (baserunning, working counts, etc) is a good way for any club

I wasn't going to post in this thread until I saw that gem.

Does Theo actually have a new plan since the old BoSox Way of hiring drug cheats, fleecing poor clubs out of free agents to be and screwing poor clubs at the draft is 2/3rds legislated out?

Does the plan actually include pitchers?

Hitters are put through a battery of proprietary video-game-style tests to gauge hand-eye coordination and pitch recognition

It would seem that a group that strikes out as often as these prospects might cause an update to their systems

When Theo was with the Red Sox he had all his scouts read Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking. It's basically about trusting your initial instinct and not over analyzing a decision. That seems to be the exact opposite of what he is doing with the Cubs.

The first public knowledge of a "BOOK" goes back to Earl Weaver and the Orioles. The book is basically a how to play the game. Almost like a football playbook in some regards. It has diagrams and situations ..where does each player go when there is one out and a man on first and the ball is hit to right field for example.

It does show how ot run the bases. An example is that you want to hit second base on the inside edge with your right foot so you can cut the corner quicker.

It may contain how you wear your uniform. How to talk to the fans and press.

The idea is that everyone teaches the same way and the players have the same basic knowledge.

Imagine if your 3rd grade youth football team ran the same plays and had the same terminology as the junior high team and high school. that is the basis for a "WAY BOOK"

the exact opposite was P.K. Wrigley's college of coaches where each coach had a different idea of how to play the game.

Virtually every organization has a "BOOK" now... When Theo joined the Cubs he was shocked to find out they didn't have a book so he Jed and Jason started reconstructing the "Red Sox Way" book which they had developed in Boston.

I think the system is designed to develop more borderline prospects.

It doesn't applies to unique talents like Baez, Bryant, Soler, etc. The benefits of "the book" would take longer to see. It takes a typical prospect 4-5 years to get through a system? So, we are a couple years from seeing what that's about at a significant level.

same thing the Sox are trying to do. At least the GM is, not getting a lot of help around there. Surprise, surprise.

The Cardinal Way does have the standard baseball drills in it. A reader can see how Kissell breaks down the infield positions into the 11 different plays a third baseman will see, the 13 a shortstop has to handle, the 12 for second base and so on. But there are also lessons that transcend the field. There are suggestions for the man as well as the Cardinal when it comes to "all things that go into how you're defined," according to Mozeliak.

Charlie grew up in Golf ... I parked cars at his dad's joint The Studio...knew Charlie at LA along with Pirate draftee Hammerin Henry Hyde...most of my grade school buddies went to ND in Niles and played with "Lurch" Greg Luzinski. Best guy at LA would have been Purdue QB and undefeated Dolphin DB Tim Foley.

Luzinski's friend and a good pitcher at Notre Dame, Bobby Feltz, lived right across the alley from me. Those guys would be out in the alley playing catch and I was a little kid annoying the shit out of them. One day Luzinski picked me up and put me on top of our fence and told me to just sit there and watch.
