Nah, once these duds are exposed Theo will be out of bullets because his draft schemes have been put on lockdown and he doesn't have 2 roid head L/R hitters in the middle of the line up. He also left his Commodore 64 back in Boston.

Good luck!

Trolling and hyperbole (the extremes) aside, the Cubs do have some real reasons for optimism. I'm sure even the Sox fans will admit that.

Is there a store where one can be purchased?

I already did admit that in the Schwarber thread. But this article is ridiculous. I'm sure even you can admit that.

If many of the team stats are on par with teams that are in playoff contention, why is it a ridiculous article?

Are you REALLY crowing about the overall success of the prospects at the MLB level at this point in time? You may have your day, but it ain't today.

This is a serious question and it's not directed at Cub fans or Sox fans, but at all baseball fans. Do you think it's time that baseball abandons the old-fashioned method of rewarding success based upon wins and losses and utilizes a different method or scientific formula to more accurately determine its champions?

Of course they do. Any team that is this bad for 5 years will have reasons for optimism.

It's not like anyone expects the Cubs to be terrible forever.

Before anyone goes all Cubbierage on me, the Sox are bad too.

I'd turn that around and say that the biggest flaw or gap in current statistical analysis is the inability to isolate performance/stats from when the game (or even season) is on the line. Should a Cutler TD or INT in the 4th qtr when the Bears are hopelessly losing count as much toward his QBR as a TD or INT early in a tied game? How about a Rizzo homer when the Cubs are 14 games out? A DRose FG in the last minute when the team is up or down 20? All of those things count the same in their stats, but occur in differing circumstances.

Baseball is somewhat different than the other sports since there is no clock, but even so, once games get out of hand there are changes in strategy that influence outcomes (pitchers are more likely to throw strikes when they are way ahead, etc).

So while I understand JORR's point (why not just crown as champ the team with the best run differential over 162 games), the run differential itself was generated under varying circumstances. But then again, if the teams know that run differential is the ultimate goal, then their strategy changes.

You could go even deeper than Pythagorean records based on run differential. bernstein was pushing this yesterday: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit ... ans-082714 and he actually pilloried a texter who had the gall to simply say "a team's record is its record". To which danny flipped his lid and said, "NO IT ISN'T! THAT'S WHAT THE ARTICLE IS TELLING YOU! IT'S NOT OPINION!

I assumed the question I asked would be viewed as rather ridiculous, which of course, it is. If looking at things like "expected wins" makes you feel better about a team's chances going forward, that great. But when we start to say that 59-72 teams are better than 65-60 teams, we've really gone down a rabbit hole.

And this is one of my issues with the way these aggregate statistics are used by Joe Fan who reads an article on Fangraphs or Prospectus here and there. It's never about seeking real knowledge or enlightenment. It's about bludgeoning some other fan with something you know and he doesn't.
