First thing is first. Cub hitters need to win April!

I hate those positive spin, mistake found and fixed type articles too.

Bat speed is the most overrated skill in baseball. It's nice to have but it doesn't do a lot of good if you don't hit the ball.

I look back fondly on the time when Brian Anderson was in the best shape of his life and changed his late night habits.

This has already been discussed and ridiculed.

Read the board.

Baez has struck out 27 times in 52 Winter League AB's. Maybe he needs to lose some weight in his head.

wtf?

Keyser,Thanks for the update! It's little FYI tidbits like this that make this board a good place to be.

Instead of worrying about Bryant making the Opening Day Roster,I'm more worried if Baez makes it. I sure the hell don't want to watch a strikeout machine on April 5th moving forward.

uh...no, I'd say bat speed is not overrated. All of his hitches need to be changed, but his bat speed will in a perfect world, allow him to wait back on offspeed pitches.

Uh...yeah, he can have all the bat speed in the world and wait back for an eternity but if he can't recognize it's an off speed pitch he will never hit it. Ever. He'll just be swinging at air.

Said no successful hitter ever.

In the team picture for worst baseball thought ever on this board.

That's a possibility, that he'll never have good pitch recognition. But it's laughable to state that bat speed is of no consequence. Great bat speed makes up for a poor eye. Was Gary Sheffield's bat speed overrated?

I'll take a hitter with great hand eye cordination and pitch recognition who consistently barrels the ball over a guy who can hit it a mile on the rare occasion he makes contact.

I remember those great Dunn years where I tried to delude myself that the AB were getting better even when he struck out.

Makes the La Stella trade look like a good investment. No way Baez makes the opening day roster.

Bat speed is NOT the most overrated skill in baseball. Stick whatever qualifier you want on.

yeah i'll take my chances with someone having bat speed being able to work on pitch recognition as opposed to someone with good pitch recognition having to work on bat speed.

that said, keyser isn't wrong about the importance of pitch recognition ultimately being more important than bat speed, however i think that bat speed is something i'd prefer to start off with in a hitting-project/prospect as opposed to pitch recognition... if that makes any sense.

That is an astonishing stat. Cubs will be lucky if he is Rob Deer.

If you have bleacher seats, you definitely won't.

yes. It disheartens me that the dude's a strikeout machine, but I'd still like to see him play everyday for a full MLB season.

They're pulling out all the stops. They sent Baseball Confucius down to see him play over the weekend.
