I thought the idea was to lose to get the high draft picks. The problem with that is the Cubs have yet to bring up anyone they drafted in 3 years by finishing last!

Am I missing somebody? Don't give me the name of some bullpen rehabbed guy. Yes,Kris Bryant looks fantastic but I would have rather watched a respectable baseball team for 3 years instead of one phenom and one chubby catcher getting drafted!

Ricketts was brought in because Reinsdorf knew Mark Cuban had limitless resources and would have put the Sox to shame. Him and his buddy, the former Brewer owner could not stand that thought. So enter Ricketts and 5 years of nothing. There are a lot of Cub fans on here who are delusional in thinking there was a reason for a teardown. They could have been building a good farm system AND put a respectable team on the field. A World Series in 2015 or way beyond doesn't justify it.

Year 4 and waiting...of course year 6 and waiting under Ricketts.

Joe Maddon's team was picked for the WS last year and they finished 4 games better than the Cubs...WHOOPEE!

Am I trolling? No,Homey don't play dat!

What happens if the 2015 Cubs have a worse record than 2014, and/or finish in last again? Unthinkable? Maybe. But what if? Could Epstein survive that?

He'll get an extension before then, so yes, he would survive that.

Jimmy might have been whistler.

Instead of using years, why don't you do it in terms of days? Then you could make a new thread about this topic everyday....1,000 days of losing for what, 1,001 days of losing for what, etc, etc. And if you want to go full Mini Ditka, calculate the hours.

Exactly why I suggested a while back he just make a single rolling thread to hate on Theo.

He likes the attention. He has already become a junior member of Sox Subdivision.

Why does Omaha get the smart and able Rickettses while Chicago gets the rag tags?

IMU thinks A WS title would be a failure. But we don't want him on the South Side.

What I DO like is coming on here everyday and being amazed by how many Cub fans like the plan STILL! I do see some support wavering though.

If a WS and continuing success after that isn't good enough for you, then...no real point to any of it. You basically denounced yourself as a fan.

There is no waivering support, the support was always tempered as Dr Ken put it. Steps forward is what fans want...a big step backwards this year would be a complete disaster and see many jump with you. Maybe not to the darkside, like yourself, but become WNBA fans.

You continue to make things up as you go along.

What most of us have said continually is that we will wait to see how it turns out. I am not completely sold on the plan, but I am willing to give them time.

Now if we are in this same exact spot this time next year, then I will be moving way more in your direction and I have a feeling that others will too.

I am cautiously optimistic, but there is still no doubt this thing could fall apart.

make what up? There are those who will wait for the plan. I said 3 years ago on here that Theo picked a bad season to blow things up because it was the first year of the extra WC team and anything can happen. You know, like this season where 2 WC teams made the WS. When I hear about blowing things up and starting over I think of the Royals and the Bucs with their respective 20 year wait until they see something resembling good baseball. I don't think I have 20 left, sorry.

You make things up about all the Cub fans here that are so in love with the plan.

The perspective I have given you is way closer to what the majority of Cub fans here have stated time and time again, yet you and others refuse to see it.

The Cubs are clearly an end justifies the means organization/fandom. Sometimes the end isn't even necessary and they will be bad actors simply because it is fun.

I think much of the frustration some of us have with The Plan is the caveat being put out there by Bernstein and others is that "it ultimately may not work, and that's okay." No, if it doesn't work, it's not okay. The only way it will be considered a success -- the ONLY way -- is if the Cubs win a WS within the next 5 years or make the playoffs at least 3 or 4 times out of the next 5 years. Because of the sacrifices fans have been asked to endure, it's not enough to say The Plan was sound, but shucks, it just didn't work out. No, this Plan was a grand experiment that had never been done in a major market, and therefore the expectations cannot simply be the same as if they went a different route.

No,of course I wouldn't be but we both know that ain't going to happen!

I just don't believe in losing on purpose. Might as well go back to watching Wrasslin'.

Isn't it basically the same thing?

Jimmy came back from the dead and now he's just trying to protect his zombie heart from Cubbie pain. You won't be able to truly enjoy the World Series win in a few years if you aren't completely invested in the team. You have to believe.
