I was just listening to the update on SCR and they had Lester's personal catcher talking. He was going on and on about Lester's leadership and so on. That isn't the point though. Are you Cub fans mad that a pitcher making that coin makes you blow a roster spot on a catcher for him that otherwise could go to someone else? Like a diamond in the rough type find and so on?

Nah the guy is fine. You gotta have a back up catcher and you gotta give your main catcher time off.

If he makes Lester happy then great.

I liked that time Theo thought he could get away with not keeping Doug Mirabelli around to catch for Tim Wakefield. Ball-transferring ineptitude on par with Olin Kreutz/Rex Grossman ensued. So they traded for Mirabelli and had the police escort him from Logan to Fenway just in time to make Wakefield's next start. I guess TheoAndJed learned their lesson about personal catchers.

Backup catcher should get about 1/3 of the starts.

I don't think people understand the physical difficulties of the position. The hurt happens early and it doesn't stop.

I know Brian Downing used to catch Wood rather than Essian when I was a kid.

I get this and agree. I do not think it should be Lester's (in this case) guy who otherwise blows.

Ahh,names from the past. The bespectacled backstop(Brian Downing). JC Martin was a terrible hitter who also played for the Cubs and the Mets.

My question: If it means it is important for the Cubs to carry a DC for those few extra wins that might mean something,how the Hell can Mike Olt start at 3rd base for 3-4 weeks??

When Olt came back last year, he had no power but he took pitches and had a decent OBP. Not sure what he'll do.

Heck,I'd be happy with .250 avg/.320 obp and maybe 15 HR's for the season from this guy.

Im afraid that what makes him interesting (power) is what makes him bad (low average)

Id take those numbers too, but Im not confident he'll get those
