The Chicago Cubs have agreed to terms with free-agent relief pitcher Rafael Soriano on a minor league contract, the team announced Tuesday.

The deal offers a pro-rated major-league salary that would pay him roughly $2 million if he pitches half the season with an additional $4 million in performance incentives.

he was a 2010 All Star in Tampa with Maddon.

Worth the shot. No lose of draft choices or prospects.

It may be worth noting that Soriano fired Boras and is now with Octagon (Alan Nero) who also represents Maddon.

Nice catch on the Nero angle, as I cant see Boras letting anyone sign a minimum deal. I could see Boras telling Soriano that he should go elsehwere if thats what he wants...and the guy probably just wanted to play.

Good low risk gamble but I doubt he has much left in the tank, especially as a closer.

I agree, but would be good if he was still useful. Guessing that is the hope....Closer is the dream that has left the building.
