wait.... wasn't THE PARTY OF THE CENTURY a few years ago? why isnt it now? what were we celebrating 100 years of a year or two ago? i'm lost here....

maybe they can remove the nets and let fans keep any pieces of concrete that fall from the roof and that'll be the bestest giveaway ever (goes GREAT with sod/dirt with or without the keychains)

FROM NOW TIL INFINITY.... THE CUBS WILL CELEBRATE 100 YEARS OF SOMETHING EVERY YEAR! NEXT YEAR IS THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 2ND YEAR OF WRIGLEY!!! PARTY OF THE CENTURY!!!

Is there another team in the history of sports that has played in the same stadium for 100 without winning a championship?

The Cubs didn't play at Wrigley Field at first, so we were celebrating the real estate itself, now we're celebrating the Cubs' tenure at the park. Except guess what, Really Smart People? If the Cubs' first season at Wrigley Field was 1916, then their 100th season was this year, not next year. So really, now we're celebrating the 101st season. OKAY! It's the party of the Cub-tury! Bison burgers for everyone!

Charlie Weeghman built Weeghman Park for "his" Chicago Federals of the brand new Federal League. The Federal League went out of business after only two years (1914 & 1915), so Weeghman, William Wrigley, Jr., and nine others purchased the National League Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs were then moved from West Side Grounds to Weeghman Park. In April of 1916, the Cubs played their first game in Weeghman Park. Wrigley bought out the shares of the other original members and changed the name to Cubs Park in time for the 1920 Opening Day. In 1926, it was renamed to Wrigley Field in his honor.

So, I read this over again and realized that there could possibly be another 100 year celebration in 2026 for "Wrigley Field".

Yes. Not sure the immensity is conveyed well enough in the photo. It really is huge. I believe they have 2 lower levels, thats where the VIP parking will be.

Heard there is a NEW pizza joint going in on the ground floor of that building... should be ready for the opener.... and ground breaking should start across the street soon for the new hotel and more local chef doing family freindly ballpark menu restaurants will be going in there. BIGGIE will be in food heaven.

A great idea would have been to call this 'a century of progress' as a take off from the Chicago Worlds Fair, but since no progress has actually happened in terms of winning...

You're the reason people wish bad things for the Cubs.

So we already have next seasons "Back to the Future" justification for the why the Cubs are a team of destiny.
