Dunn is having a vastly improved year, but recently has gone into a funk. Rios is enjoying a nice season and continuing on his, every other year is good-trend, Peavy has been mostly good (not so much in his last start though) and has stayed healthy....knock on wood quickly. So the most disappointing parts of the team have rebounded and got them into 1st place. But as of late, the offense has stalled. The Sox have dropped games where the starter went 8 or 9 innings and gave up nothing, or as little as 2 runs, in recent weeks. With Quintana taking over Danks' spot in the rotation nicely, you would think the team would be rolling. Konerko is having another good year, Beckham has improved his average over the last 6 weeks and looking good. Now they get Youkilis and yet they lose their 6th series out of the last 7, with this series loss to the Twins. What the heck?? Just can't get the timely hits? Too many good hitters to see how they would struggle this badly to score runs. Oh, but what the hell has happened to Alexei ?? He is awful this year. It used to be just during the early season in the cold weather. But it's been warm since May and he's been awful.

Fuck you're stupid. Dunn and Konerko slumping the past two weeks=Sox slumping. It's really that easy.

So Beckham, Youkillis, A.J., Rios, Viciedo and Ramirez combined are incapable of leading the team to wins? It's all on the shoulders of Dunn& Konerko? If so, they can't win the division. Good teams have different guys leading the team to victory on an almost daily basis.

 Fuck, you're stupid.

Rios with a HR yesterday and drove in all kinds of runs on Saturday.
Beckham homered and had 4 RBI last week Weds to help beat the Cubs
Escobar comes off the bench cold to hit a gapper in the TENTH inning Sunday to win

They haven't won a lot over the last 10 days, but right there are 3 different guys leading to their last 4 wins. Fuck, you are really goddam stupid

Sure, on occasion the other guys get hits and win games. But as with most any team, if your one or two big bats aren't hitting, the team is going to sputter offensively.

Exactly. They are only good when no one is watching.

I understand if he wanted to make a big splash with his newest acquisition putting 3B Kevin Youkilis in the #2 spot and moving 2B Gordon Beckham down to the #9, but quite frankly, in just 2 games, it's not going to work long term for the White Sox to stay in this race in the AL Central.

The trio of Alejandro De Aza, Youkilis & Adam Dunn have gone a combined 2-for-24 in the first 2 games of this series vs. the Twins, while Beckham is currently 0 for 6 in the #9 spot in the first 2 games of this series, too. Beckham has been a lot more productive in the #2 hole, hitting .265 with 7 HR's & 25 RBI's compared to .191 in the #9 now with 2 HR's & 7 RBI's. As for Dunn, he's right now 2 for his last 32 with 20 K's. Yet RV continues to put Dunn in the #3 spot in the lineup and is reluctant at best to move him down in the order. In short, why fix what clearly wasn't broken?

I think in due time, if Dunn continues to struggle, RV should move him down in the order, as well as Youkilis. While I do believe that Beckham will adjust, I think he should've been higher in the lineup last night with the offensively-challenged Tyler Flowers batting ahead of him last night. I do believe Beckham will be back in the #2 spot in RV's lineup if the threesome of De Aza, Youkilis & Dunn continue to scuffle and ultimately, #5 or #6 might be where Youkilis ends up, too.

The real answer is that there's nothing wrong with the offense. The truth is the Sox are fifth in the AL in runs scored and probably only one team is going to break 800 runs this season. I wouldn't start making wholesale changes because they got shut out a couple times. This isn't 1999.

^ this has come up in the Dunn thread also. People think you can just look at guys' career numbers in a vacuum. The run environment is much lower now.

That is a good point. As I was always reminded many, many times, baseball is a marathon, not a sprint.

Be nice. A few years ago Steve adopted the Twins as his AL team. It has to suck to root for terrible teams in both leagues.
