White So acquire Brett Myers, according to Ken Rosenthal.

3.51 ERA, 19/21 saves, has been a starter in the past, owed $11 or 12 million next season.

No word on what the Sox gave up or what Houston is paying for on this deal.

Deal is not in stone yet, but seems nearly done.

The clubhouse definitely needed another jerkoff.

Can't see the Sox allowing him to close games. If they do his $10M option for next year will most likely vest.

The White Sox are on the hook for just $1M of the $4.45M still owed to Myers this year. Chicago also received money to go towards Myers' salary or possible buyout for next sesaon.

I like it. It's really too bad the Sox don't have any prospects other teams want to make a trade.

wait what? 2nd base is far from "the problem" for the whitesox, insomuchas offensively you could do much much worse than beckham...

Gordon Beckham (2012): 89g 326ab 42r 76h 16h2b 0h3b 9hr 38rbi 23bb 57k 3sb 2cs .233avg .290obp .365slg .655ops

well, ok, he's kind of stuck on 9HR and his average has sunk down from the high .240s (and rising) to .233

you see, i think in the big picture this youkilis trade is a setback for him. he responded positively to being put back in the two hole, and at the time i thought it was a great move by robin ventura to "reward" gordon for hitting his weight and that spark of confidence in gordon beget more confidence in gordon and he was looking like he could be a darkhorse ~.260/20/80 guy.

now he's stalled down there in the no-man's-land that is the bottom of the whitesox lineup. obviously putting youk in the two-hole is the move to make, and the results that youk has produced validate that thought.... not to mention that the white sox are in the business of winning today's ballgame and not in the business of developing gordon beckham first and foremost, but still, for his longterm mental health i wish he was able to stay in that two hole because i think he needs to get on a bonafide tear and end up having a .265/20/80 type season to get his swag back and then be a perennial ~.260-.300/15-25/70-90 RBI bat, which when combined with his defense makes him a fine second baseman for the foreseeable future.

his defense is so damn good tho that you've gotta weather these storms of offensive nothingness and hope that he can get out of the funk and become at least .275/15/75 year in and year out for the next half-decade. c'est la vie

Brett Myers talks about incident with wife in Boston, says he didn't want to face Sox in Series

Starting pitcher Brett Myers, interviewed in today's edition of USA Today, said that if the Phillies had played the Red Sox in the World Series, he would have asked manager Charlie Manuel not to pitch him at Fenway Park.
During the Phillies 2006 trip to Boston to play the Red Sox, Myers was arrested outside a bar and charged with assault and battery on his wife. He told USA Today's Bob Nightengale that "I don't ever want to pitch in Boston again."
If the Phillies had faced the Red Sox in the Series and Manuel chose to honor Myers' wishes, it would have meant that Myers could have only started one game in the Series. As it is, he started (and lost) Game 2 of the Series in Tampa Bay, and is set to be the Game 6 starter if Philadelphia loses Game 5, which will resume tonight in the bottom of the sixth inning with the score tied, 2-2.
Myers told Nightengale that he still receives hate mail over the incident in Boston; here's what he says about that:

"I know there are people out there that think I'm a jerk. There are people out there who think I'm a wife-beater. That will never change," says Myers, alluding to a 2006 incident in which he was arrested and charged in Boston with assaulting his wife, Kim.

"But you know what, I really don't care what people think about me. ... If people don't like me, they can deal with it. This is who I am."
Myers told Nightengale that on the night in question, he and his wife went out to dinner, had a lot to drink and began arguing. While Myers disputed the police report that he hit his wife and dragged her by the hair, he did say this: "When you're both heavily intoxicated, that stuff does stuff to you you're not supposed to do."
The charges against Myers were dropped after his wife, Kim, who is a foot shorter and 120 pounds lighter than the hulking pitcher, tearfully asked a judge to do so.
Click here to read the USA Today article, which is the first time that Myers has gone into specifics about the night of June 22, 2006.

Better make a list of places that he doenst want to pitch in because they're mean

The White Sox sent minor league right-hander Chris Devenski to the Astros to complete the trade that sent Brett Myers to Chicago. The White Sox sent right-hander Matthew Heidenreich and left-hander Blair Walters to Houston for Myers on July 21st.

Devenski, 21, was selected in the 25th round of last year's draft. He has spent the 2012 season at Class A Kannapolis, where he has a 4.23 ERA with 7.9 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 61 2/3 innings.
