As the Sox make their determined bid for a top 3 draft selection, I guess taking a football player with an "Upside", as has been done so often in the past, just may not fly.

I don't think it is as big a deal as used to be since the slot system is in place.

Hahn was on Bernstein the other day and said they never had any "No-Boras" policy. The only time it is problematic is in FA.. the Sox do not like extended negotiations and like to sign guys quickly before the alternatives are gone, which has led to few Boras negotiations in FA. The draft is a different animal.

All Hahn can attest to is that he never heard the sox had a no boras policy.

Bernstien considers JR a negotiating savant. I agree with him. However, it is strange that JR wouldn't look at Boras as a worthy opponent and revel in their negotiating battles.

Oh there is no doubt. Reinsdorf might be a lot of things, but he's clearly a shrewd businessman. The salary cap and revenue sharing in MLB wouldn't look like it does today without Reinsdorf pulling strings with his fishing Bud from Milwaukee.

To elaborate, Boras' philosophy is to draw negotiations out as long as possible and get the maximum dollar value for his free agent clients. It's not that Jerry wouldn't see him as a worthy adversary. Moreso the reasons the Sox don't engage agents like Bora$ is the same reason Tampa wouldn't bid on those types of clients. Draftees are a different thing. Sox, should they get the 2 or 3 pick, the solution they trend toward is taking a college senior with little leverage, or a guy who is ready to sign. They'll probably get a top 10 talent, just not maybe the best talent available.

Reinsdorf is a great businessman and he makes shrewd offers, but the problem is while he is giving someone $22 mill a year over 113 years, in the form of annuities and stock options, someone else will just make a $23 Mill cash payment offer if the feel it is worthy. Creativity 0, Cash 1

Also, some of his deals often result in problems down the road, ask Frank, Scottie, Horace.

Anyone remember when he wanted to offer A rod $18M a year, but he needed a private meeting with A rod (No agent involved) lol!

What battles?

Boras used to let his picks go back into the draft for next year. He is a fascinating guy that has done little negotiation over the years. He does research. Tons of it. And then he sits down across the table and gives you a price. And then he says, "Let me know when you have the paperwork."

Isnt Axlerod Boras's nephew?

Funny thing is that you have never seen my call JJ Reinsdouche, take a personal shot at him or even insult him, but some(guys) think I hate the man?

As some of the other barristers here have pointed out, sometimes he doesnt negotiate with some of the best intentions and skates the area of ethics in that realm.

I do think a huge conflict of interests exist between his direct involvement in MLB operations and rules V His ownership of a team. Have always said he would be a better commish than owner. Of course many say he is the commish of baseball. Commish of the relocation committee and a few other committees from MLB. The slotting system for the drafts (all of them ) are his originations.

State of Illinois Park is another matter.

I don't think you hate him. At least not completely.

You are pretty obsessed with him and his team though.
