Kevin Youkilis. Though his performance with the team in that single season would be world-beating with this squad.

I know. I corrected myself in a subsequent post. I was too young to remember those seasons, but I just always figured he probably sucked. Then I looked at the stats just now. He didn't.

Not too relevant considering most of those numbers are pre-concussions. Still, all they need is a part time backup 1b and part time DH

I don't remember George Foster as a White Sox, but I was in graduate school at the time.

George Bell had 2 decent seasons with the Sox. Sucked in his last year with the Sox. Then he retired. So no to him. Yes to Manny.

Frank is right about Tom Seaver. He had a 3.94 ERA in 1984. And a great 3.14 ERA in 1985 in 35 starts at the age of 40. Wow. I didn't realize that. Won 31 games in those 2 years (I know, wins don't matter). So I stand corrected.

By the way, just thinking out loud. Is that 3.14 ERA the greatest ever for a 40 + year old starting pitcher? If not I would think he's at least in the top 5.

Nolan Ryan had a 2.76 at 40 and a 2.91 at 44.

Raines and Thome were really good for the Sox. Bell was decent.

Cubs fan Juiced is having lots of trouble in this thread

I think it is a good signing. Morneau won a batting title as recently as 2014 and his splits were nearly even on the road or at home in Colorado. Plus, they are paying him just 1 million, so talk about a low risk move...If he can come back to anywhere near the form he had 2 years ago, it's a phenomenal move. If he is a shell of his former self, it was a low cost move. it's another indication the Sox are going for it in 2016 still, rather than blowing it up and doing a complete rebuild. That is a mistake in my opinion. But it doesn't surprise me, as this has always been the Sox M.O.

Steve, we are in agreement.

The guy maintained a good OBP and average when he played over the last couple of years. His power is gone but he is currently a better DH possibility than Avi.

This will have little impact on the team. Waste of time.
