I don't really need warmth in a ball park. Warmth is for people who aren't really interested in baseball or are just visiting the place as a tourist attraction. Any place at which you've had a good time, multiple times a year, for 30 years is going to have familiarity, which is more than enough. I want a place that's convenient and comfortable, Comiskey checks both of those boxes.

I find it pretty "warm," as it were. The statues, the murals, the pleasant walk around the concourse, the cast-iron entrances to the outfield seats, the parking lot during tailgating....plus, they have a small team welcoming you when you get there....I really like it.

Great sightlines, too.

Kauffman Stadium used to get a lot more positive attention, but people seem to have turned on it. It was great when I was there. Have not been there since the renovation.

The lower deck at Guaranteed Rate Field is one of the best places in the world to watch a baseball game. The upper deck at Guaranteed Rate Field is one of the worst places in the world to watch a baseball game.

That sums it up well.

Yeah, it pains me to say, but my favorite seat in all of baseball is a first few rows of upper deck Wrigley, between the lines. It's almost breathtaking. PNC is my favorite park in general. But I've only been to about 7 or 8 outside Chicago. Worst is Milwaukee. Sorry, no baseball in a warehouse. No sir, not buying it. Warehouses are for football.

Milwaukee's stadium is as good as you can do with an indoor (warehouse) environment, but I agree. The amenities are nice, but it definitely does not have any kind of outdoor baseball field vibe even with the roof open.

Parks I've been to for actual games: White Sox, Cubs, Cleveland, Milwaukee, St. Louis, San Diego, Dodgers, Anaheim, Boston.
No games but I have physically been outside the ballparks of Baltimore, Detroit.

San Diego wins in terms of the newer ballparks I've actually attended for games. It has character, it's in a great location, and the amenities kick ass.

Current state upper deck at Guaranteed Rate is fine. The other newer ballparks with the layers of skyboxes have similar upper deck issues. I tend to think they solved their upper deck problem best way possible.

I get this, but Wrigleyville has morphed into a run of the mill suburb more than anything else over the past few years.

Yeah it’s gone upscale/yuppie for sure. I cannot say which version I like better because many of the new spots are nice. I never was a fan of the empty triangle property with what used to be a hot dog place on it (?) or the McDonalds from hell across the street.

But if I had my way it would be all day games....times change.

The upper deck at Wrigley comment is spot on. One of the best seats in baseball.

The best seat in baseball would be in any dugout, chillin' and spittin' sunflower seeds.

Agree with that.

Before I begin, insert Humblebragisdman....

As someone who has visited every NL stadium but for the new Braves iteration and I have been to Fenway, Target, Progressive, T-Mobile, and the Cell. I have seen most designs. I also visited the old Busch, Comiskey, Fulton County stadiums.

The Cell was much improved with the color scheme noted in the original post. The lower bowl is solid. Great food. Nice concourse especially in the outfield. If you like ample parking there you have it.

But the best ballparks (for me) have other things that add to the total experience. I love when you have a great background, PNC and Coors have amazing views as you look out. Places with great surrounding neighborhoods, Fenway, Wrigley, Coors most notably. The best all in interior designs are American Family (Millers) and Citi. Citi is my favorite stadium. Great tailgating is a huge plus for American Family.

The worst stadiums are Petco and Marlins. I have not been to, thankfully the A’s or Rays, which are obviously shitholes.

Solid, but not spectacular are the Nats, Cards, DBacks, Giants, and Phillies.

I love Fenway and Wrigley. Yeah they are way outdated, but baseball is about its history, and these places are magical.

If you think Petco sucks, you've either never been to Petco, or you're a dumbass.

Never been there but I've always disliked the design of Petco either. It's always seemed like the biggest fraud in the retro park movement. Not hate, but I just have never cared for it on t.v..

Which one jumped the shark? The center field hill or the dirt path from mound to plate?

Houston brought that CF fence in a little so the flagpole is no longer in play, and they got rid of the hill.

I like the dirt path from mound to plate.

Honestly it starts with the building in left field and the focus on the surrounding skyscrapers since they couldn't sell the product on the field. It just seems contrived.

True....and of the newer ballparks it's still looks like one of the worst.

If you can catch a game at Minute Maid Park where the roof is open (there are fewer and fewer of these) the stadium is wonderful. If you sit on the 1B side you have great views of the Houston skyline, and also the surrounding buildings give it a real urban feel. It's great roof open.

That said, roof closed and it's like your watching a baseball at a shopping mall.

I don't think so. They couldn't knock down that old building in left, so they built around it. It's one of the few honest contrivances among neo-retro parks. The Ballpark at Arlington was always the most fraudulent one to me. They tried to make a Texas-sized Camden Yards but plunked it into an ocean of parking in a suburb.

Arlington has always been a horrible place for baseball, and the ballparks haven't helped

I always thought Houston was the baseball town and Dallas-Fort Worth was a place that happened to also have a baseball team, but I guess the Rangers are more popular statewide. I wouldn't have guessed. The Rangers have always felt like an afterthought to me.

The keyhole. I like it, too. Do the Tigers still have it? I know there's a reason not to have it, but it reminds me of old time (baseball)

It's fake. If you want to be reminded of old time baseball, get rid of the groundskeepers. Then you can have an honest keyhole.

I like to get to the ballpark early to watch Roger hose down the field. I also enjoy the chalking of the boxes, the sweeping of the foul lines, and the painting of home plate.

I had season tix after college and went to one of those day at the ballpark type things for those of us dumb enough to try to take in dozens of games a year. It was supposed to be a completely open park - walk on the field, throw off the mound, etc.

It happened to be a slight drizzle that day so they limited movement to a small stretch of the warning track near the gate in CF. When the rain died down, I asked some of the staff positioned around the field if we could go into the outfield. Each person responded the same - the groundskeeper would kill them if he saw people out there.

I’m sure it was just a polite way to tell me to fuck off, but since that day, I’ve had this image as Bossard as a ruthless mafia boss.
