Bummer has been absolutely torched by the lead off batter all season. A trend that continues

Aaron Bummer activated specifically to lose this game.

Diekman allows 2 of the 4 batters he faces to reach base, and Kopech cant cover 4 innings. Thats your problem.

Bummer sucks...

...but this is one of the best Sox games (in addition to the Cease game the other day) in a while.

Edit: Twins lose, too.

HUGE victory.

Feels like the first time they won a slugfest all year.

They need to win 3 of 4 at OAK.

The Sox have been fine against good teams most of the year.

Problem is they've sucked against bad teams.

Twins lose two
Guardians lose
Sox win

2 games back
3 games back in the loss column

Twins get one more with the Yankees today and then a weekend with the Guardians while the Sox get the A's. Time to make hay

A WS team would win 3 of 4 at Oakland in September.

Bummer is a victim of the three batter rule. He is an elite LOOGY, but his breaking pitch is ineffective vs. right handed batters.

The first batter Bummer faces has a 1.274 OPS. That's about as far as you can get from "elite." Of the 21 first batter's Bummer has faced, 11 have reached base.

Joe Kelly, who has been fucking awful this year, has allowed a .605 OPS and a .314 OB% to the leadoff hitter.
Jake Diekman, another throw off the train guy, .821 OPS and .458 OB%

The Aaron Bummer love amongst White Sox fans is sickening. He is another one of Hahn's brutal moves, but it goes unnoticed because he's either on the IL (out of sight out of mind) or he has a good breaking pitch every third game he plays.

Someone should give those number to Hahn.

Why, so he can sign Bummer to another extension?

Here are Bummer's numbers vs. lefties:

G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR BB SO SO/W BA OBP SLG OPS GDP BABIP tOPS+
184 319 294 35 55 7 0 3 22 89 4.05 .187 .245 . 242 .487 11 .256 60

That's absolutely elite.

Vs lefties in 2022

9K, 7 BB, .325 OB%

Hardly elite.

Bummer was awful yesterday. Kept nibbling at the outside corner after the first pitch homer. Couldn’t throw a strike.

He’s almost un-pitchable if the opposition has a right handed bat coming up.

Correct. The three batter rule has rendered him almost worthless.

He can't get groundouts any longer, either. They're going into the bleachers.

He has more than enough trouble with batter #1 this season.
