Frank, you're reasoning in this thread is similar to Nas's reasoning in the Airline thread.

Colon is worthless. He's thrown 194 innings the last 3 seasons combined. Garland threw 196 last season. It's not Colon and a rookie Frank, it's 2 rookies.

Please don't bring stats into this arguement

Did Garland even make LA's playoff roster last year? The guy in a mental midget, only gave his all when he felt like it, and the smallest things bugged him...Which is why people called him Judy Garland..I will take my chances with Colon and the kids...I am sure all of wanna be GM's in this room were pissed when Kenny gave the ball to Danks and Floyd last year instead of getting a veteran...I will take 1 million dollar crap over 6 million dollar crap any day..

Oh and never compare him to Buerhle. Career numbers show Buerhle with a lower ERA..more wins, more stikeouts, less walks , less losses and a better WHIP..no comparison.

I don't think it's Frank because he's one of the guys that was pissed about Danks and Floyd.

The Floyd trade I expected. The Danks trade was the one that really puzzled me. But, I was proven wrong, and after seeing Danks in '07, I like him a lot and had confidence he would be a solid middle rotation guy last year.

Why let stats get in the way of a good arguement? Why not just keep blowing every move your GM makes? or doesnt.

Is Garland worth $7Million more than Colon?

Talk to me after the season - I say he is. Let's take a look at innings pitched - I say Garland is good for three times more than whatever Colon puts up. Colon is 2009 speak for 2008's Loaiza.

Remember when Kenny traded Garland? Most people thought he'd be looking for $12-15 Million per year. Oh my, how the economy and fact Garland didn't pitch once in the playoffs last year change everything:

Garland gets $6.25MM in '09 and the 2010 option for $10MM has a $2.5MM buyout if the D'Backs reject it. If Garland rejects it it's a $1MM buyout. Bottom line: if he doesn't return in 2010, he'll have made either $7.25MM or $8.75MM for '09.

I would have rather had Garland than Colon - but maybe Colon doesn't even make it out of Spring Training, and one of the youngsters outperforms both combined. I have faith in Kenny Williams and Coop.

Few things:

WWN, you're not allowed to make jokes about "STATS" if you're going to argue who the better pitcher is using W/L record as your only criteria.

Frank, read what everyone's saying about Colon. They're right that he's not a good idea for 2009 (or any other year going forward, really). I am with you on the Colon v. Gardland argument, but I still think your expectations for Colon this season are way out of line.

Chris_in_Joliet/Frank, stop flaming each other in baseball threads. If I have one wish for 2009 it's that you guys will just cut it out (you, too, Elmhurst Steve). Outside of basketball (where my knowledge is limited), baseball is the only sport I give a shit enough about to actually want to discuss it on the board, but I usually stop sometime around May when you guys are too busy pushing threads into 5+ page territory with your juvenile cat-calling. Take it somewhere else, please.

The next name I call somebody in this thread will be the first.

I have a feeling Colon is going to surprise a lot of people this year, himself included.

My apologies to Chris + Frank. I'm not the board police and that was out of line. It does kinda annoy me when you guys get all "CUBS!" "SOX!" on each other but go nuts, it's a free country.

GD, point taken. Hissing, jazz hands, and switchblades from here on out
