If they put Peavey on the market they would have a line out the door to acquire him.

I'll just do a little speculation:

Jenks- Phillies
AJ- Cardinals
Konerko- Red Sox
Jones- Mariners
Sweaty Freddy- Padres

Why would the Cardinals want AJ?

Left handed bat with playoff experience coming off the bench.

Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

The left handed and playoff experience parts don't mean anything if he can't hit the ball.

Also, if the Cards were to get him strictly for his bat, then they would have to carry another catcher in addition to him and Yadi...I don't see that happening.

.284 career hitter coming off a .300 season. Don't tell me you think he is going to hit in the low .200s all year.

It's my thread. I can play any games I wish in here.

Career numbers are nice...but right now he sucks.

Still, even if it goes on a tear and hits .300 the rest of the year, my second point still stands.

Why would they have to carry another catcher. AJ is fully capable behind the plate

AJ is a significant downgrade from Yadi behind the plate.

If they are going to use his as a pinch hitter as you suggest, they would still need a backup for Yadi...Tony would sooner put one of his starters up as a pinch hitter than use his reserve catcher...I know, I stayed up for that 20 inning shitfest...

Not to mention it takes a year or two to learn Dave Duncan's "system"

The class of free agent catchers is a big pile of suck so if it comes to that I'd rather the Sox hang onto AJ and get the draft picks. He only makes $6.25M (thank you Kenny for not backloading your contracts) so it would also be fine if he accepts arbitration and comes back on a 1 year deal.

Keyser, remember that deal the White Sox made with the Braves 2 years ago in which Javy Vazquez was sent to Atlanta in a deal that brought catcher Tyler Flowers along with SS/2B Brent Lillibridge to the Southside? Vazquez stunk it up Saturday afternoon vs. the White Sox and got booed out of Yankee Stadium, but that deal isn't looking so good right now especially because Flowers & Lillibridge can't hit their ways out of a paper bag for Triple "A" Charlotte...

Whoa. The Sox may have soured on Flowers as a major league catcher but he is definitely hitting himself out of a paper bag in triple A. Through 20 games he's hitting .286/.398/.543. That's pretty good, SHARK.

He is worth bringing up, this team needs at least one more bopper... two would be nice.

JD will be on the Sox by mid-June so there's your one bopper.

He was offered a contract by one team at 1.5 million and the Cubs wanted him as a 4th outfielder, but he was not interested in a part-time gig (monetart terms were never discussed). After the way he faded in the 2nd half last year, to think he was going to get any kind of contract was questionable. To get one anywhere near what he had been making with the Sox the past couple years, was unrealistic. Now he wants to come back and says he could help the Sox and he could be ready to play in 2 weeks. I'll bet that he would be a whole lot more realistic about his salary demands now.

Are Pods are Dye the ones giving up 4, 5 runs and 10+ hits in 6 innings? Because thats been the problem for the most part here...

The hitting has not helped. Rios, Konerko, and Jones look like the only guys who know how to hit the ball.

Thats true to a certain extent, but I certainly don't think this team has more wins if they had Dye and Pods.

yeah i agree

i admit due to NBA playoffs i have not been watching as intently, but it seems most of their losses like last nights 7-2 are due more to the pitching...until peavy's good outing the other night he has been pretty bad, and aside from Buerhle's 1st start he's gotten roughed up a bit too. floyd has been unimpressive. so if your top 3 pitchers (sub Danks if you wish hasn't been much better) are all failing or are inconsitant, i'm not sure how much help some washed up OF's are going to be

It's a combination of bad pitching (Floyd as a sterling example) and lack of timely hitting. The Cubs and Sox are mirroring one another with regards to having men on and not being able to drive in a single run. Where does the blame mostly fall, on the hitting coach or the players? I think it's 50/50. The Sox just don't have good/smart/patience hitters.

This team will play this way all year and be lucky to finish at 81-81.

Yep. I've seen this before much too often to be fooled into becoming passionate for this group.
