...is another weakass argument started by Cub fans who think they can rile up Sox fans. That trade was a no-brainer at the time, and still is.

fail...I'm a Sox fan too

the trade was never a no-brainer when Peavy was hurt and u gave up 4 pitching prospects...you give up 1 or 2, then I would think about it

Kenny Williams is a bully.

My point is perfectly clear to anybody with half a baseball brain.

They gave up 2 minor leaguers that were meh, Aaron Poreda and his 1 pitch (which wasn't very good), and Clayton (Sidney Jugdash Muhammad Lonnie) Richard who is a 4th starter in the AL. Even injured Peavy was worth that. No one knew he would rip his lat muscle off of his shoulder. And as I explained to Elmhurst Horseguy a couple of weeks ago, Richard's ERA would be higher in the bandbox that is the cell. To Frank's point, which you are obviously too baseball stupid to understand, is that he has the majority of his starts in a superior pitcher's park. In fact, here are his splits:

Home-13 Starts, 81 innings, 3.00 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, .229 BAA
Road-13 Starts, 78.2 Innings, 4.12 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, .297 BAA

Peavy has 10 Sox wins at $15 million. Richard has 17 Padre wins at $425k. Bernsie will tell you they both have WARs of 1.3 this year.

This is why I hate numbers. Their comparison doesn't take competition into account.

It isnt really fair to compare this season since Peavy's muscle detached from his body. If after next year Peavy still stinks and Richard is doing well then you can declare the trade to be bad.

Yes and no. They compare wins at the end of the season to see who makes the playoffs so more wins are good I guess. Look, I didn't really have a strong opinion about the trade, but those against it said it was too much money for someone with injury concerns, not so much giving up Richard. Well Peavy's injured and he costs 15 million, so yeah, that was a valid complaint. Richard pitching "well" is just icing on a shitty cake.

I agree on the shitty part of Peavy being injured. I won't argue that because it blows. I'm sick to death of the revisionist history of The Great Clayton Richard and how good he was here last year. He was ok, but not great. I'm happy to see that he has found success. Bully for him. I'm tired of the argument that he would be doing the same thing here, because, while I won't definitively say he wouldn't be, there is no way to know that he would be either.

I'd still make the peavy trade as well. Who knows maybe 7-8 mos. off give this guy much needed rest. Worst-case is he is never the same guy and in continually hurt. Too many people in this town complain of Chicago's gm's sitting on their hands, the Sox have one that doesn't The Peavy trade is another example of kenny trying to win.

I agree, I don't remember some huge outcry that giving up Richard was a bad move. Most even were pleased based on Kenny's record of giving up pitchers that never turned out to be much.

Hence revisionist history
