I realize the guy is not happy and he can't say he has no hope, but give me a break here Kenny!

"All this has done is put the Tigers in a better position to contend with us," Williams said

I know he's trying to show confidence in his creation, but this sounds like a guy who still thinks his team is coming off a World Series Championship.

This also sounds like a guy who isn't realistically looking at his team, and seeing holes everywhere, almost like they are a move away from being right back on top of the mountain.

Actually the whole article makes kenny look bad and it is basically all his quotes, with nothing more added by Mark Gonzales

He also said he was fed up with other teams he believes were leaking information to reporters about the Sox's targets.

"There are too many executives in Major League Baseball offices who have loose lips," Williams said. "If they didn't have loose lips, you guys wouldn't know about it and the rumors wouldn't get out.

"Of course they affect how you do business and whether you're able to do business. It's a lot easier to do business when you don't have to deal with the public debate."

"What we have started this off-season, I'm proud of. And where we're headed is right toward being a well-rounded team in all facets of the game."

"What [the scrutiny] does is make me wonder why I even bother spending the time that I do expounding on what our plan is and how we go about our plan," Williams told reporters

He was the one who kept making references to signing T.Hunter.

There were players on the White Sox (J.Dye) who was recruiting him as well.

If Williams wanted him that badly, he should have locked him up.

Same goes for Cabrera. His manager was giving projections on how many HR's he'd hit in US Cellular Field.

I actually like that quote. Ranger made the point and he's right. What do you want Kenny to say? "Man, rough off season. We're gonna suck."

No. He can't and won't do that. You guys know that.

Words mean nothing but he has to show confidence in his team.

Do you think one player, fan, manager or player felt that showed confidence?

I would say that saying nothng would have been better, but his Cabrera aspirations were leaked in so many areas he had to say something.

I like Chris Rongi and the White Sox weekly show, but he is a paid apologist for the Sox. it is like Jessie Rogers was or is for the Hawks. Maybe apologist is a wrong term, but a much more accurate statemnt is that he will never rail on the Sox like the station had nothing to do with them, which I understand, because it is Flagship.

Its the GM's fault, its the medias fault, its everyone elses fault, except for us. Kenny, Jerry and Hawk always have a excuse, how about, we lied to our fan base, we want the money for ourselfs and you were easier to fool then I thought. To much crying and not enough accountablitie on Kennys part if you ask me.

By the way, for the 1000 time, the sox are not a top 5 payroll, because take away what the phils are paying on thome and you have a top 10 which is fine, but then why does kenny cry poor, cant have it both ways.

As far as Ranger goes, good guy, does a good job, but is scared to piss off anyone to do with the White Sox, so he will never step up and say "they were wrong". its called job security I guess.

Yes, but making statements that are factually incorrect isn't an option. The Sox finished behind Detroit the last 2 seasons. That's a fact. I like Kenny, but he should have not said anything.

It was an incredibly stupid, and inaccurate comment.

The Sox are 36-19 against Detroit over the last 3 seasons. Kenny was talking about head to head, not to win the division.

Kenny said "contend with us"....I think you're stretching on that. I just think that Kenny really believes his team is a good team coming off a bad year.

i think rongey does a fair job of playing the hand that he's dealt. cite an instance where pissing and moaning on the radio has changed the way a team's front office goes about their business.

kenny's statements were stupid, but what else is he going to say, and what can rongey say about them without being a toolbox? a reasonable fan is expecting a .450 season out of this team, and anything on top of that is gravy. if you really "demand" more each year out of this team, or any other, then you've got another thing coming, especially in baseball. all the wild speculation in the world (favored considerably by hindsight) still wouldn't put this team on the level of the indians or tigers.

No, its not.

The Tigers and the Sox are in the same division. This aquisition makes the Tigers more competitive and better able to compete against the Sox.

There's nothing more there unless in Kenny's statement beyond that; unless you put things there. Of course Kenny is going to say that the Tigers and the White Sox are competitive; as THEY ARE GOING AFTER THE SAME THING; the division championship.

but do you think they're saying in detroit that they did this to contend with the white sox? i think they got these guys to make themselves better, and the sox haven't really done anything to beef up their team. now maybe there are things in the works, but the quote makes KW sound like the tigers are looking up to the sox, and not the rest of the division. If it wasn't so specific and he said something like "This makes them more competitive in our division," I think the quote wouldn't have come under such scrutiny.

Well, following my own advice, I figured that is what he meant. Talk about putting things in there!

Not a big fan of the Japanese, Grid errr... Timbercrank?

From what I heard, Texas is the real loser here. They offered more money than everybody and were still turned down. The Sox still have enough time to upgrade. I hope...

There's still time to upgrade, but the options are dwindling.

If they want Aaron Rowand, they may have to pay more money per year because the Giants may be willing to give him a 5th season, something the White Sox aren't willing to do, based on media reports.

I get the impression they don't want him, or consider him a bottom option as they have missed on Hunter, made an offer for Cabrera (which probably would have prevented another high priced free agent signing), and were interested in Fukadome.

I'm not sure if they are exploring trade options or waiting to see if Rowand bends on the 5th year, but their options of upper tier talent has clearly dwindled, and it seems to me, that unless they may sort of trade for an all star talent, they are now hunting for lesser talented, but still good, players.

Doesn't look good for the Sox. Rowand signed with SF for 5 yrs/$60 million.

...and the Angels are moving Garrett Anderson to DH, so they don't have an extra outfielder. I'm sure Vlad will DH now and again too.

So Torii Hunter, Gary Matthews Jr, Garrett Anderson and Vlad Guerrero doesn't equal a surplus of OFs.

Wow. I can't say I'm surprised. The Giants were the only team willing to give him 5 years, and the White Sox are running out of options on the free agent market.

At this point, I'm afraid Kenny is going to make a bad trade just to fill the CF spot.

I'd actually be willing to accept Jerry Owens in CF if that meant that we got involved in trade talks with Oakland (Haren) or Baltimore (Roberts/Bedard).

I think Kenny has to be flexible, and willing to work a different plan when he sees the one he tried to put into motion just didn't work.

If he's able to land Roberts, I'd be optimisitc with a lineup feature Roberts, Cabrera, Dye, Thome, Konerko.....

I'd love a pitching staff with Buerhle, Vazquez, Bedard, Conteras and then a 5th starter.

I'm not sold on the fact that the Sox 'HAVE TO' have a free agent (or big name CF).

They've got four young outfielders in Owens, Sweeney, Anderson and Carlos Quentin.

...and the ageless Jermaine Dye.

I wonder if Dye and Buerhle are regretting signing those extensions now.

Kenny's always been the master of the trade - NOT the free agent signing of top prospects. Other than AJ, Iguchi and Dye - I can't think of any other 'somewhat big name' free agents they've signed over the years.

Agreed - at this point, I think he's pursuing any improvements through the trade route, but I just hope he's not fixated on acquiring a CF at an overpriced trade value.

Would Rowand make them better than:

Detroit and Cleveland?

NYYanks and Boston?

Anaheim?

I think Kenny's come to the wise conclusion that the White Sox are NOT capable of winning in the next couple of years.

There's always Juan Pierre at $10M per year for one or more of our young prospects. Hell, if Brian Anderson is never gonna play in the bigs again, deal his ass.

Slick, Rowand was one of the Sox players who joined together in not taking the test in spring training a few years ago in order for mandatory league wide testing to be initiated. I agree his body does look roidish, but it just is not true.

Ya, to make a statement that they WANT testing. Nicely played by him and Paulie Konks. Time will tell. I always thought Rowand was built like one of these guys:

Squatty with short legs and a long upper torso.
