All I ever hear is how the Sox fans have an inferiority complex, and are obsessed with everything northside. This entire Sox forum is littered with crap from Cubs fans. Just enjoy your first place team, that is what we are doing.

Not so with me.

I'm glad they are in first but I'm hardly enjoying it.

Every game is a struggle. Win or lose.

I'll take it. Don't get me wrong.

We've wasted 10-12 good to great pitching performances.

The Royals are coming in. Let's get a sweep with two of them being blow outs.

I don't want to ridicule the Cubs. You can't cuz they are pretty damn good but I like to focus on ridiculing Swisher, Thome, and Konerko.

The three or so idiots (DDD et. al) who gain pleasure in being assholes over here deserve to be rebuked. I don't see how you get "so many" out of the sample size here, but whatever. I can agree that it's annoying.
I, for one, am astounded the Sox are in first and they are to be commended for pulling that off. The pitching has been fantastic. Buehrle figures it out and it will be arguably the best staff and bullpen in the majors. The "changes by Tuesday" remark from Ozzie is interesting. What can Kenny or Ozzie do to revive this moribund offense? I don't know a damn thing about Sox AAA/AA teams, so clue me in.

I think the well is pretty dry in that regard. Baseball Prospectus has the Sox farm system ranked last. I think they're stuck waiting for the big guns to turn it around, I'm not even sure what they could do trade-wise.

Yeah, that totally goes both ways and it's annoying no matter which team you support.

As for the Cub/Sox fan thing, I think that once you take away Riles and Costanza it's about even and there's not all that much. There's lots of Riles mults and only one Costanza, but Costanza posts more, so it evens out.

I'm a Cubs fan, but the Sox are just another AL baseball team for me. I neither hate them nor like them. I follow them more closely because I see more games than other AL teams, but I only see about 15-20 whole games throughout the season. Actually, I've been in Florida for the past three weeks at watching a lot of Rays baseball in my attempt to become a bandwagon Tampa fan.

That cracked me up. Apt description.

Is it just me, or has Frank mellowed of late?

Huh? I wasn't taking a shot at the Sox there. I don't think the Cubs system is doing all that much better. I know approximately nothing about minor league baseball players, so I'm at the mercy of what others say. And BP says there's not much down there. I know some of that is the consequence of having brought up a lot of younger players, but still. I don't know if there's anyone you can deal at this point for a veteran bat.

You can deal Fields for Dunn.

But why would you do that when Fields can probably do just as well as Dunn? And he's cheaper. They're both home run guys that will strike out and can't play the field well.

Maybe the answer is to call up Fields and DH him. That might happen.

Chus it happens in both threads. That has been the case since I've been posting. It annoys me too. I'll never be able to understand all the hate.

I haven't been on the board as long as you have Nas, but for some reason it seems like it's worse this year.

We're not gonna take on that salary. Especially if he's signed for next year.

Yes, Dunn is hot now.

What are you gonna do Nas? He can't play the field. Dye is in right. Quentin is in left. You think Reinsdorf is gonna want to sit on Thome's salary while paying for Dunn's huge salary to replace him?

Yeah, the Reds will trade Dunn for Fields in a heart beat. I don't know why you would do that if you're the Sox. You have Fields for cheap for years and he could help this year.

Thome isn't getting it done and there has to be a playoff team out there that will want him in July. Obviously the Sox are still a playoff team. I keep telling myself that there is no way guys like Thome and Paulie won't hit for 2 years in a row but it looks like I'm wrong. I still say they will start putting the bat on the ball but if it doesn't happen by mid July Kenny might have to make some moves.

Well, Thome actually hit last year.

I don't get your logic. The Sox are a playoff teams that needs Thome. Yet you're saying another playoff team will want him. Hmmmm. WE ARE THAT TEAM AND WE DON'T WANT HIM.

Last time I checked there were more Sox fans on this board and I'm not counting the few of us that happen to be fans of both teams. When the Sox went to the WS they gave Cub fans nothing but hell. Even respected guys like Coach and GD take shots at the Cubs whenever they get the chance.

I meant jerkish fans. I think it's about 70-30 Sox/Cubs on this board, which is fine, because a lot of the Sox people can talk Cubs and vice versa. The way I see it, if you hate any sports team as much as some people hate the Cubs or the Sox, you're probably not having frequent enough sex.

Wrong Irish Boy. I bang my hooker once a week. While I'm baning her I'm telling her how much I hate the Cubs. Shows you how much you know. I imagine her vagina as being the Cubs circle logo.

+1 to Nas for being the only one on this thread willing to call Beardown out on the fields/dunn thing. you've got to be kidding me, man. you'd rather have fields over dunn, now, in a playoff hunt? really? if josh fields could hit like he did last year, he'd be ted "fucking" williams. unfortunately, josh fields is not and will never hit like that over the course of an entire season. lay off.

also, i don't believe that trade will actually happen anytime soon, but it has to be said.

"adam dunn is hot now"

adam dunn has done pretty much the same thing every year - hit a ton of homeruns and strike out a bunch, too. he gets on base, though, despite striking out (k > 6-3) and i don't care what josh fields does in his career, adam dunn would be a lot more valuable to the white sox now and over the course of the next four years.

It's not that I'd rather have Fields over Dunn.

Right now I'd rather have Dunn. Yes.

You also have to look at this realisticly. To get Dunn you'd have to bench Thome. Can't play Dunn in the outfield.

So we have to eat Thome's salary for the rest of the year while taking on Dunn's. Don't think Kenny will be allowed to do that. Fields is a cheap option to replace Thome.

Plus, Dunn has cold spells as we all know. He could hit .225 for the 2 months he's with the Sox. Plus it will retard the Sox future cuz Fields is gonna replace Crede.

The final 3 months of last year Fields hit a buch of homers while batting .250. It was similar to what Dunn does.

That's all I'm saying.

This is where you are wrong Suckers.

Fields will be more valuable over the next 4 years over Dunn.

He'll be cheap and young. He's gonna be a power hitter.

Well the obvious move is they could bring up Fields and put him in for Thome or Konerko.

for that kind of move, you only call up players who are hitting well. josh fields is not hitting well.

Well who you gonna bring up besides him? I thought it was concensus that he's the next Sox player to be brought up. I think Ozzie is gonna do something.

i don't see how they'd bring him up with both thome and konerko still on the roster. it just doesn't make any sense. if a trade is in the works, you'll see him, maybe, and it'd likely be to make sure he's still a capable hitter. fields looked great last year in limited time, but he's stinking up charlotte right now, and when dealing with young players, track record is irrelevant; "what have you done for me lately" is the rule.

Why are you not gonna see him with Thome or Konerko on the roster? Im assuming they are two of the main guys that Ozzie was directing that rant at. I dont think they are gonna be playing every day the rest of the year if stay at .200.

you'd have to play fields every day at 1B and plattoon the dh spot between konerko and thome. this is a silly proposition. fields hasn't proven anything at this point that would make him a valid everyday option over konerko and thome. if fields were tearing up AAA pitching, i would have no issue with it, but you're hands are tied by his poor showing so far - if his numbers from the end of last season were "for real" he'd be doing the same thing now.
