The only thing I'm concerned about is the lineup as a whole, not just one guy. Especially 5 through 8.

It's not that I wouldn't want Ramirez's production instead of Teahan. I would have liked Kenny to do more than just patchwork the position. Ramirez would be a short term fix. He makes a pretty healthy salary and is also getting up in years. The Teahan move is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. It's not a ton of money,But it is time invested and production lost. I'M Not SAyin im just sayin.

Chris Getz is 4 for 10 with 2 stolen bases in his first 3 games as the Royals 2B.

Getz stole 25 bases in around 400 PA last season (2 CS).

If Ozzie wanted to play "ozzie ball" (whatever that is), why not keep Getz and have him cover 2B while Beckham stayed at 3B and worked on his power numbers.

Sure, Getz' defense wasn't the best--but defense skills can and do improve. You can't teach speed.

My biggest concern is the fact that Guillen seems to believe that wasting his outs is the best way to win ballgames. And having Beckham as the guy wasting them is just goddamn dumb. It's like using a Ferrari to haul a trailer. Okay, they needed one run to win in the ninth. I almost, maybe can see Beckham sacrificing, although I might suggest that the best way to move Pierre would be to allow your best hitter to actually hit. Anyway, if he's going to do that all season, other teams are certainly going walk Quentin and try their high percentage play: Doubling up Konerko. Ozzie hates numbers.

Frank Thomas said the team will hit in a couple of weeks when the guys get to know each other??????????

I don't think anybody (not even IB) can make grand predictions and justifications about the 2010 Chicago baseball season after a grand total of 6 fucking games.

Fine, "accruate predictions" based off of 6 games. Silly. Need a bigger sample size. Teams have started poorly and won it all. Teams have started hot and missed the playoffs. Its happens. We have 5.95 months left of the season.

Frank, I agree with you. Just remember this when you post in the Cubs section. :P

I tease in the Cubs section, but the same is true. That could have been Grabow's worst outing of the year, who knows at this point.

While I don't really disagree with you the team philosophy, business plan, whatever you want to call it is already in motion. We've got a good idea what Ozzies battleplan is (small ball, move over faster runners, yadda) and what Lou's plan is (hope Soto gets hot, hope Lee produces, hope Soriano doesn't fuck up, hope he stays awake).
THe battle plan scares me. I mean I am well aware that no battle plan survives first contact with the enemy, but their teams are build how they're built and they both have HUGE GLARING HOLES.

This move continues to be the head scratcher of the off season to me. Getz was cheap, productive and fit what Ozzie was looking for. After they acquired Pierre, the lineup seemed set with Getz as a perfect 2 hitter, with Beckham third.

The sox lineup looks like a collection of bench players. That's what they've looked like over the course of their careers, and that's how they look now. I'll go ahead and make the prognostication that they'll look that way over the next 5.95 months, thanks.

I'm concerned about the psychic abilities someone must have in order to make a determination about a team after 3 games.
1.85% of the games played for this season.

At least put it to good use...like, when am I gonna die? or will I ever make what I'm worth again?

I'm not concerned about the asinine thoughts of somebody just trying to get a rise out of people, thats for sure.

The thing that concerns me most is Ozzie managing like a stubborn asshole. If you're going to try to win based on pitching and defense THEN PLAY YOUR BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYERS AT THE MOST IMPORTANT DEFENSIVE POSITIONS! A stolen base attempt after the 7th inning would be nice too.

Teahan is an average 3B at best. He'll probably end up in the .260 range with about 15 HR....Rios is a concern as well, but I'd be satisfied as long as he hits .270 with 20 HR and great defense.

As for the weather, I don't think either team hit very well in this series. Who knows the reason? It could just be early season, cold weather, good starting pitching, etc.

If Guillen is going to be going to the sac bunt a lot, I'd like to see Vizquel in the 2 hole and Beckham at 5.

Rotate him through SS and 3b and see how he holds up, if/when Teahen and Alexei start hitting, then you can consider sacrificing defense and bat control of Vizquel for offense.

No, I could be wrong, but I think Beckham led the team in doubles last year, in his 3+ months

I don't mind a sacrifice bunt to move a runner to 3B with one out, but I want Beckham swinging the bat. He's potentially amongst the best run producers in a shaky lineup, don't take the bat out of his hands.

Ozzie hits Kotsay 3rd (.120) and AJ 5th (.171) while Jones (.296) is again on the bench . His stubborness could be a serious problem this season.

But you do know that the odds of scoring a man from second with no outs are better than those of scoring a man from third with one out, right?
