I wonder what kind of crowd awaits Philip Humber tonight when he makes his first start since throwing a perfect game in Seattle last Saturday. The White Sox start a 7-game homestand this eve vs. the Red Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. These are the pitching matchups:

Tonight 7:10p: BOS-61 Felix Doubront (0-0, 3.94 ERA) vs. CHW-41 Philip Humber (1-0, 0.63 ERA)
Friday 7:10p: BOS-51 Daniel Bard (0-2, 4.63 ERA) vs. CHW-50 John Danks (2-2, 5.11 ERA)
Saturday 6:10p: BOS-31 Jon Lester (0-2, 6.00 ERA) vs. CHW-44 Jake Peavy (3-0, 1.88 ERA)
Sunday 1:10p: BOS-19 Josh Beckett (2-2, 4.56 ERA) vs. CHW-34 Gavin Floyd (1-3, 3.60 ERA)

Philip got knocked around a little bit early but he got himself out of a potentially bigger jam. Hopefully he's settled down.

Mini Ditka was right, should have traded Humber. It is all down hill from here.

Hey asshole, maybe you should have stayed with your team and done your normal routine rather than going to be home with your wife who wasn't due for more than two weeks. I think the pendulum has swung too far in the opposite direction on this paternity issue.

If my dad told me he missed my birth but was able to add 10-20 million to my inheritance, I'd find it an acceptable trade off and this wasn't even the case of missing a birth

Easy killer. It's just 1 start against the 2nd best offensive team in baseball. Don't let your anger over the Bears draft pick cloud you thinking here.

I take it dolphin doesn't subscribe to the late twentieth century custom of a man "helping" a woman have a baby.

I do think it is important to be supportive throughout the entire pregnancy. I think some men have taken it to be suffocating. 2+ weeks is a long time before a birth and doctors have a pretty good handle estimate if you will be early. He was coming home in three days anyway, so stay, do your work and come home a day early the day before your next start. This is kind of like the Spiegal thing where the time off is unnecessary.

If the Sox lose this series or get swept, when is the appropriate time to hang the "not interested" sign?

I didn't expect a perfecto from Humber again, but I was expecting 3 runs or less and a win last night.

Are my expectations set too high?

The Paul Michael Glaser-looking Chuck Garfien from Comcast SportsNet mentioned what Mark Buehrle did after his perfect game vs. the Rays in 2009, and it wasn't too good. Buehrle went only 2-7 after his perfect game that year. A bad omen for Philip Humber?

As for Humber last night, he was definitely "Humb"-led in the very 1st inning vs. a superior Red Sox offense.

The Red Sox are starting Daniel Bard tonight, but the lineup is the same as last night for the White Sox.

12 Anthony John Pierzynski C (L)
51 Alex Rios RF (R)
24 Dayan Viciedo LF (R)
22 Brent Morel 3B (R)
15 Gordon Beckham 2B (R)

As for Boston, there are a few notable changes, and those are in BOLD type.

3 Mike Aviles SS (R)
15 Dustin Pedroia 2B (R)
28 Adrian Gonzalez 1B (L)
20 Kevin Youkilis 3B (R)
34 David Ortiz DH (L)

John Danks tries to stop the White Sox from dropping their 4th straight and second of four vs. the Red Sox this eve.

This team is a real piece of shit. Thankfully I can waste my time watching golf for the rest of the summer.

Appreciate the Game = We suck balls.

The more he pitches , the more I think JORR's stance on Danks is correct.

It's not just my stance on Danks, I have what you might call an anti-stance regarding the way the game has come to be viewed through statistics which are ultimately averages.

I hate when I hear someone say a guy "pitched well enough to win". If he had pitched well enough to win, he would have won. I guess what the guy is really saying is that the pitcher pitched well enough to win some hypothetical game vs. a different team in a different ballpark with different weather conditions and a different plate umpire than the game he was actually pitching on the day he actually pitched.

It's easy to assume that a guy with a low ERA will eventually have a good W/L record, but it isn't always true and it isn't always due to factors other than the pitcher himself.

Back to Danks, I'm not ready to call the guy gutless. I remember him letting it all hang out in the "Blackout Game". But for the better part of two seasons now he's been pitching just well enough to lose a lot of the time. His team scores and gives him a lead, the next half-inning he gives it up- or at least tries to give it up.

People are trying to run Corey Crawford out of town for playing goalie exactly the way John Danks pitches.
