They would both win with good players and lose with bad ones. Gardenhire is not a modern manager. He is an old hidebound guy who loves to bunt and issue intentional walks. The difference between him and Ventura is that Gardenhire does those things because he believes they are the right things to do. Ventura does them, well, because that's just the way it's done.

Im stereotyping a bit here, but I feel like people in Minnesota would be less forgiving of Ozzie's shenanigans (Oney)

The Guillen show will play anywhere as long as you're winning. But it only plays in Chicago when you're losing and then, not forever. He won a World Series here. He had the longest leash in the world and he still wore out his welcome.

Anyway, he's a guy you can use to come in and shake up a moribund team, but he definitely has a shelf life. I would compare him to Billy Martin. He's good for the turn around, less so for the long run. And he's another guy with a lot of antiquated ideas about how to approach the game.

ozzie was awesome. i don't care what anyone says about some dictators in cuba, i'll never forget that time he went out there and started an argument for no reason to screw up jays closer b.j. ryan, who had struck out 2 hitters in 6 pitches and was ahead 0-2 to whoever.

after a minute or two of ozzie's pointless arguing/grandstanding, ryan couldn't hit the strike zone and walked the third hitter, who would eventually go around to score in an eventual 2-1 come-from-behind WHITE SOX WINNER(TM)

still, if he can resist the urge to keep it real about his thoughts on foreign dictators i think he'll end up being a nice top pundit @ ESPN/MLBN/playoffcoverage/whatever. he's got it made in that regard, just as long as he remembers those chappelle's show skits about the times that "keeping it real" went horribly wrong.
