Sox.

They'll end up with 91 wins.

It's interesting that they've had a winning record every month except September, and I suspect that by the time September is over, they will have a winning record for that month as well:

April 14-11
May 19-10
June 14-11
July 14-12
August 16-12
September: 8-10

It felt like they had a slow first couple of weeks, caught fire in May and June, and have been .500 or below for the rest of the year.

I understand the idea of their plan to "rest guys for the playoffs", but that also hurts the teams ability to get any type of consistency. The "best 9" lineup seems to only happen in game 1 of a series. Since the start of August, Sox are 12-3 in game 1's.

He struck out the side in the 8th tonite.

Then Hendriks threw a ten pitch 9th.

It would be nice if that foreshadowed playoff success, but I'm not convinced.

makeup game with Detroit Monday.

Hopefully they get this one which will make it a series loss 2 of 3 , which looks better than getting swept in 2 games.

Quote:
ROSTER MOVES
Sept. 26: OF Brian Goodwin placed on the 10-day injured list
Manager Tony La Russa said Goodwin will not get any more at-bats during the regular season because of a sore back. His availability for the postseason is not yet known.

Sept. 26: RHP Matt Foster recalled from Triple-A Charlotte
Foster is 2-1 with a 6.32 ERA, 40 strikeouts and a .287 opponents' average in 34 outings (37 innings) with the White Sox this season.

RHP Dylan Cease (right triceps contusion)
Expected return: Possibly before postseason
Manager Tony La Russa said Cease still has a bruise, but he is scheduled to pitch the last game of the regular season against the Tigers.

“It gives him a chance to make sure the bruise is totally gone,” the skipper said. “It gives him a chance to throw a couple of times and get ready for the start. We had the spot open, so he’ll take it. It could have been worse, and we were lucky.” (Last updated: Sept. 26)

OF Adam Engel (leg tightness)
Expected return: TBD
According to manager Tony La Russa, Engel took batting practice on Sept. 26, but he is at least three days away from seeing action on the field.

“He is doing a lot of things well,” La Russa said. “It’s the running part that we have to really track. Hopefully, he can play in the Cincinnati series. It depends on [his] health.” (Last updated: Sept. 26)
I would rather see Keuchel take the season's final start, since he is not likely to be on the ALDS roster. Even if Rodon can't go, starting Keuchel is basically giving the game away.

Engel's ouchiness is incredibly disappointing. He had issues last year as well. He's useless if he can't stay healthy.

Detroit is pitching a guy who has given up nearly 120 baserunners in 77 innings pitched. It would be nice to get out to a big lead early and put this one on ice.

WTF is with Cease starting the last game of the season. He should be the Game 2 ALDS starting pitcher at this point

ALDS starts Thursday Oct 7th, so if he goes on game two thats 4 days of rest. My guess is he doesn't throw more than 70 pitches/4 innings on that Sunday.

Also of note, ALDS plays five straight days barring a rainout. No off days scheduled during that first series.

I don't believe it will be Cease that actually starts the last game...Tony will change it.
If he does, then Cease will be the game 3 starter.

Under different circumstances, you're probably right. But I think they want to give him one more start, and also give that bruise time to heal.

I think its going to be Lynn G1, Giolito G2, then either Cease or Rodon G3.

Agreed. I'll go a step further.
I would bet Cease is used out of the pen. I think he should be starting, but I'm not the manager.
Rodon will be either game 2 or 3. I don't see any scenario where Tony doesn't have a left handed starter for at least one game.

It's painful to watch the Sox trot Keuchel out there for 30+ starts this year, knowing it is going to result in them having to give him another year at 20 million.

The guy is hanging on for dear life against sub .500 teams playing out the string. What is he going to look like in 2 years?

It sure doesn't seem like he is well liked because instead of rallying to help him, the team seems to play dead assed in his starts, knowing a loss is a foregone conclusion

Anybody have a clue what Benetti & Stone are saying in this Yaz MVP convo?

They’re normally very well spoken but they’re both firmly into old-man-rambling territory. It’s like trying to follow Terry Boers as he spends 5 minutes making a point that could be summarized in a few words.

There we go. A nice six run 4th inning. Hopefully Keuchel can keep them off the board.

Abreu responsible for all three outs in an inning where everyone else got on base.

Or have the bullpen blow it and have to sweat it out late. Motherfuckers.

 He did sort of. 5 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs. That's about the best you can ask for out of Keuchel at this point.

Exactly. Nobody needs to get hurt in a scuffle, or get docked a couple games.

And these two teams play this weekend. My guess is, this isn't over.
