It's a wash. Sale led the league in strikeouts last year and Moncada did so this year.

Cubs fans should be happy with this trade. It's rivaling the Lou Brock trade at this point. It's a disaster.

Chris Sale was supposed to start Game 5 of the American League Championship Series against the Astros on Thursday, but he was scratched after being hospitalized with an illness over the weekend.
That illness, Sales said, was brought on by a belly button ring. This is not a joke.

“I had irritation from a belly button ring," Sale told reporters Saturday, via the Boston Herald. "Constantly taking it in and out caused irritation. Doctors and nurses at MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital) were awesome. Things happen. You handle them. And keep moving forward.”

The Sox won nothing while Sale was on the team. So the trade is not even close to a disaster. If anything he just brought false hope to the team. They tried building around him and it never worked.

They never even tried to build a team around him. They had four top notch pitchers on their staff and a decent group of average pitchers also. But they NEVER built a team around this group. Their infield was horrific and had a worse outfield except for right field. So they gave up and starting this quixotic build with youth bullshit.

They definitely tried but hoo-boy was it bad. Now they seem to have made the team even worse while trying this new strategy.

If they had gotten Acuna, Albies and Folty for Sale we'd be freaking out about how bright the future is. But they got a total stiff, an injured pitcher, a dime-a-dozen minor league outfielder and Victor Diaz.

Right, they won nothing. Wrong, the trade was a disaster. See America's post. You seem to be of the "Do something, even if it's wrong" mindset.

I still don't get a guy who demands to be traded because he refuses to wear a throwback jersey. And to top it off the team is like 'ya, that's a valid reason to leave, we'll find a place for you Chris'. Morons!

Is Boston the only team they could have traded with? Is the scrub MonKada and the disabled Kopech the only two players in all of baseball that could have been acquired for Sale?

The trade was a disaster. It may be worse than the Lou Brock trade. May as well have kept him for a few years and let him leave via free agency.

I seriously doubt that the Sox handled Kopech well and kind of wish that they did a better personality profile and background on the kid. I remember watching videos of this kid violently overthrowing the ball without anyone monitoring him. He was an arm injury waiting to happen. Hopefully he can recover physically but someone better put a choke chain on him or he is just going to be another hot shot kid in love with himself and his arm.

Exactly. People say you can't blame Hahn for Kopech getting hurt. Of course you can. Anybody in their right mind could see that a guy trying to throw 120 mph was destined for an arm injury soon. I'm amazed it didn't happen earlier. Fortunately they wasted a couple years of service time on him while he pitched ten innings before getting hurt.

Sale has become a Boston legend after tonight after his dug out outburst screaming at this team when they were down 4-0. Wow.

And....after watching this Red Sox team, why didn't the WSox ask for Devers and one or two of their awesome relievers? Those Boston relievers throw 99/100 CONSISTENTLY. And this is in the World Series! Very Impressive.

After watching the Red Sox in the WS this year, you're telling me fucking Moncada was the best you could have got? Shit, what an utter fleece job.

Just saw that outburst. Wow. He was screaming to the dugout about not hitting Rich Hill " He throws 2 fucking pitches!!"  Reminds me of Papi gathering them in the dugout against St Louis a few years back and chewing their ass. Good stuff.

I've been talking about Benintendi and Devers for 2 years.

When is that lease up? This crap organization needs to get out. I'm so pissed at myself for caring about them for the first 44 of my 46 years. Williams and Hahn destroyed it all in a couple of years. No returning from this mess. Thanks Hahn. You traded a Hall of Famer for a bag of balls.

Pump the brakes, let us give Moncada at least a year or 2 more before people declare him a bust.

It doesn't matter. His ceiling is Ray Durham. So they traded a HOF pitcher for hopefully Ray Durham on his best day. But he's not even a likeable person. My passion is sapped and not coming back. I hate this FO. Maybe I'll root when they're the Las Vegas White Sox.

Other trades could make up for it. I loved every other trade. I didn't like the Sale trade but no one knew it would be a "Sale for a bag of balls" that it is presently.

At this point, I'd take Ray Durham, because it's looking bleak. He can still improve, but will he be a star? Still too early to tell as Nardi says, but like juschill says, I am losing patience. It's been several years since I've been at a home win; I can't even remember the last time I saw them with a lead.
