You really can't answer. What he does different is write better players' names on a lineup card.

So that's all a manager does to you? This conversation is not worth having if you don't understand or appreciate what they do.
Managers do a lot more than write names on a card.
Even that is important. But you wouldn't admit that picking the right match ups, managing players off and on days make differences.
I suppose that the tactical part of the game eludes you as well. Positioning players, changing pitching match ups (a challenge that Robin failed Friday for all to see) calling shifts and positioning all makes differences.
Maddons defensive alignment a few weeks ago when the Cubs were in a bases loaded no outs situation was fascinating. Basically two outfielders playing short outfield. It worked out.

But again you seem to think for some reason that a manager fills out a starting lineup and then whatever happens over the ourse of the next 9 innings is just a matter of whatever happens happens.

I don't want to post too much in the White Sox forums, but whoever thought it was a good idea to bump Sale up a game and then have him extend himself in hot humid weather in late May should be fired.

You are basically telling them this is a must win game by pushing up Sale and adding additional pressure to an already stressed out Sox team. No game is a must win in MAY, especially if you are tied for first in your division. You also just maxed out Sale in the beginning of the season.

Laugh at Maddon all you want for his antics off the field, but realize he is doing it to keep the players loose and avoid additional pressure. The baseball season is hard enough without managers making it harder for their players.

Ventura should have sent a message that they are good enough to overcome whatever happens against the Royals and told the players to get ready for the Yankees because it is a long season. Instead he panicked and lost whatever confidence the Sox had during the first month of the season.

What did you see from Renteria that makes you think he would be so much worse than Robin?

The blank stare.

Exactly. You can't be a good manager unless you're mugging for the camera with a macaw on your shoulder.

I've never seen Maddon being anything other than super intense in the dugout during the game.
He's a goof off the field but when play ball is called that dude is serious as a heart attack and knows what the fuck he's doing.
You can mock him for his off game antics. That's pretty much all you got. I don't think you can mock his in game talents.

But honest question... has cooper ever made anyone better or improved someone's mechanics or overall made someone who was decent or bad into great?

14 years with the Sox and I can't think of anyone who he really made into a better pitcher. Now that's not entirely fair because the majority of my attention is focused on the Cubs so I'm asking the real Sox fans.

Addison Reed?
Hector Santiago?
Jon Garland?

I don't know.

Coops biggest issue is he's a management snitch. He'll never be fired since he whispers everything upstairs.
