(CBS) — White Sox ace Chris Sale was scratched before Saturday evening’s game against the Detroit Tigers, said team officials, who cited a “clubhouse incident.”

“Chris Sale has been scratched from tonight’s scheduled start and sent home from the ballpark by the White Sox due to a clubhouse incident before the game,” General Manager Rick Hahn said in a prepared statement posted on social media. “The incident, which was non-physical in nature, currently is under further investigation by the club.”

The team declined further comment.

Lefty Sale, who was seeking his 15th win, is the subject of trade rumors, as the White Sox struggle in the second half of the season. Saturday’s game was supposed to start at 6 p.m., but its beginning at U.S. Cellular Field was delayed because of rain.

RHP Matt Albers was announced as the replacement for Sale.

Who did he get in a fight with?

Then where is your trade report? It would be imminent.

Instead...they'll trade him in a couple of days.

I just don't get why Sale would be sent home by the team if the incident was non-physical. The team has to know that such a move could only hurt their bargaining position if they are trying to move him, so the decision to scratch him and get him out of the clubhouse probably wasn't made lightly.

Don't know what to make of this. Was he told he's being shopped, and he just went on a tirade? Fake trade notification on his locker?

The most likely scenario is that the trade is all but done, they advised Sale and he flipped his lid.

Still seems pretty dumb of the white sox to publicize it. Just say he had the flu or something. They can fuck up even the simplest of tasks. It's embarrassing.

No chance right now. Hunkered down in my seats at #120. Might just go to the Chi Sox Bar and tie one on. Might visit Kirkwood and murder him.

dude if you can get nomar mazara for sale you do that. the kid's had a power outage lately (stuck on 11HR 36RBI) but he just jacked a 2R HR tonight and he's been consistently right at .280 during the whole "slump" -- you don't need yahoo/rotowire to tell you that this kid might end up being a special one.

that said, the same yahoo/rotowire updates said that the white sox are asking for mazara + profar for sale. that's pretty steep considering that jurickson profar was supposed to be a big ol blue chip prospect for them for the last 3-4 years and only this year did he finally show up and !!!!. if the sox end up trading sale and getting profar and not mazara then they dun goof'd. get mazara if you're gonna do sale.

If they traded both of them...who actually pitches the rest of the games? It would make sense to tank, so you get a haul from Sale and Quintana, but also get a high draft slot and better international bonus pool money. That'd be a tough pill to swallow, watching the likes of Tyler Danish finish out the season, but winning more games this season could potentially prolong any rebuild process.

You know, it's funny listening to goofs on the radio who never actually spend any money at games demanding a tank job. That said, it's clear this team is going nowhere and the death march has already begun. There's a real opportunity here to remake this team quickly. I was critical of "The Plan", but there's a big difference between tanking a season that's already lost and planning to tank several seasons before you've even begun to play. I'm going today, but a Sale win doesn't mean much at this point.

There is absolutely no philosophical difference, and you know it. It's the exact same thing.

Are you serious? There is a very large, noticeable difference between starting a rebuild at a trade deadline and trying to remake/rebuild the team quickly, vs. intentionally not competing for 3+ seasons. It's easy to acknowledge that even if you believe The Plan was the smart way to go.

So, this is basically the hooker joke, right?

"Would you fuck this guy for a million dollars?"

"Yes."

"How about for five?"

"How dare you?!"

"Look, we've already established that you're a whore. Now we're just negotiating price."

A "sell-off", in principle, is the exact same as "The Plan." The Sox could still mathematically win their division or a wild card. You're just debating price.

The material difference comes from making the decision after a failed attempt at competing, vs not attempting to compete whatsoever over the course of multiple seasons. It's not a difference of degree as you're suggesting.

Sure, mathematically. But that's a shitty attempt at a "gotcha". It's clear to anyone who's paying attention that they are not going to make the playoffs, or even come close. As I said, they attempted to compete this year and failed.

Is there a fan base in more denial than Sox fans. You think the Sox have been attempting to compete the last 3 years? They fill the roster with mediocre talent by doing busy work in the offseason making trades for mediocre players and signing mediocre free agents. The fans think they are building a major league roster to compete, but they are really just building a roster to keep ticket sales just good enough not hurt and not good enough so they have to pay the state money.

The Sox are not trying to win anything. Why people believe otherwise in the face of evidence to the contrary, I do not know. Ventura? LaRoche? Frazier? Whatever that loser from Oakland's name is? You think they were trying to win?!?!?

You don't try to win and continuously end up with one of the worst records in baseball. They don't care, but Sox fans just keep lying to themselves. Still blinded by 2005. Had Kenny not lucked into that roster, maybe the fans could see them for what they are. Con men.
