I disagree. What you're saying is like saying Jay Cutler is a better quarterback than Tom Brady based on his size, mobiliy, and arm strength.

ARod was sloppy in Seattle and Texas often tipping off hitters with his positioning. There's a reason the Yankees kept Jeter in the middle of the field and it ain't because the other guy was better.

I wonder if conditioning and projections of THEIR BODIES came into it. A Rod got fat by A Rod standards, Jeter seemed to maintain his girlish figure

The organization thought it would be disrespectful to move him off Short.

That's not the entire reasoning and JORR's thing about ARod tipping pitches is legit.

Nothing surprises me about Aroid, he's been a disgrace to the game for a long time.. that doesn't change the fact he had a better arm than Jeter and much better range.

I thought that neither was a good defensive short-stop. Lower third in baseball is my opinion.

I thought Aroid was average and Jeter well below average.

His baseball IQ, intangibles, and leadership made him an average SS for his day. Today, he'd be below average because of advanced metrics and probabilities. Instincts have been replaced by hard data.

Maybe. AROID really didn't have good range but had a good arm. Jeter had good range but no arm. JEter, though, was as smart a baseball player as they come, however.

I don't think Jeter had particularly good range, especially in his later years. He earned the nickname "Pastadiving" Jeter. But as you say, his baseball IQ and steadiness in the middle of the field are things that are difficult to measure and things that win championships.

This.
I recall Jeter also being a pretty high performer in October.
Jeter was a winner....and I hate all things NY and the Yankees, but I'd take him as my starting SS any year.
