On Monday morning, following Sunday's 4-3 loss to Toronto, the Sox announced they had sent relievers David Aardsma and Mike MacDougal to their Triple-A team. The team purchased the contracts of pitchers Ryan Bukvich and Bret Prinz from the Knights.
Bukvich, 29, was 1-3 with nine saves, a 2.89 earned run average and 32 strikeouts in 23 appearances with Charlotte. A native of Naperville, Bukvich has pitched in 48 major-league games with Kansas City (2002-04) and Texas (2005), going 2-0 with a 6.94 ERA.
Prinz, who turns 30 on June 15, went 0-1 with a 0.56 ERA over 16 innings with the Knights. He had 16 strikeouts. The Chicago Heights native limited hitters to a .179 average.
Prinz has appeared in 98 major-league games over five seasons with Arizona (2001-03), the Yankees (2003-04) and Dodgers (2005), going 5-4 with nine saves and a 4.77 ERA.
With Arizona, Prinz succeeded in the set-up role in 2001 that McDougal failed so miserably in this season. Bukvich was one of the Sox's final cuts in spring training and can serve a variety of roles.
Aardsma, 25, is 2-1 with a 6.18 earned run average. He had 32 strikeouts in 22 appearances this season, his first with the White Sox after being acquired in an offseason trade with the Cubs. Aardsma was 0-1 with a 12 ERA and nine strikeouts in 11 games in May and June.
MacDougal, 30, is 1-3 with a 7.13 ERA and 18 walks in 27 relief appearances. He had a 2.89 ERA in April but gave up 11 earned runs over 8 1/3 innings in May and June.
In another Sox move, Pablo Ozuna was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. Ozuna was put on the 15-day DL on May 28 with a fractured right fibula and torn deltoid ligament.
Moving Ozuna to the 60-day DL created an open spot on the 40-man roster and made it possible for the Sox to purchase the contracts of Prinz and Bukvich. Ozuna is expected to miss about three months.
