He was fired up on more than one occasion including that final strike.

After a disappointing road trip, this was the best thing that could have happened.

That was a stopper type performance. Great for the bullpen. Madrigal fucked up another double play, but I guess you can't quibble when it's a 6-0 victory.

Yes. I think I said we gave up Lance Lynn for Lance Lynn. When I don't believe it, I'll let you know. Won't take but this year to find out. I sure hope we aren't going to compare the two after a week and half.

I keep thinking Yermin is going to come back to earth, but another game goes by and he just seems even better than the last. I'm starting to think that maybe this is who Yermin is. Obviously he won't be above .500 all season, but is he good enough to be a .300 plus hitter with power? I'm starting to think yes

Dane Dunning will never be a Cy Young contender. That's what Lance Lynn still is.

Well he's certainly no Daniel Palka but I'm sure he can hit a little bit.

Dane Dunning will never be a Cy Young contender.

I disagree that Dunning won't have 2 years in his career where he'll get a 5th or 6th place for Cy Young or be an AS once. The good thing is we'll know pretty quick. We'll know by the end of September if Dunning has any of the Amazing chops Lynn has.

Mercedes over the next few months will be interesting. I hope he takes over the DH spot. Eloy needs to be in left. He is significantly less valuable if he can't play the field.

Sox needed him to be Lynn level immediately.

It was a good trade for both teams.

Lynn does appear to be a lot of smoke & mirrors, seems like there are def going to be starts where gets tattooed

Despite all the talk about analytics in scouting, you still see how the negative (and positive) biases still attach to players and don't get shaken. Mercedes has been killing it at AAA for what seems like years. Yet the Sox couldn't find time for him to see what he had even at the end of non competitive seasons. They tried their best not to have him on the roster even this year.

It's fine if everyone stays healthy. The problem is there is zero track record of it from Rodon. And Cease is still a work in progress. So you traded your most reliable starter in waiting for an upgrade. But then you did not spend the promised free agent dollars for depth. Maybe it works out perfectly, but the first time through is making me worry about Kuechel as well.

A lot of other teams did the same.

I suppose its a good problem to have, but who gets sent to the taxi squad when Engel comes back next week? It can't be Mercedes. Leury is needed only because he can play just about everywhere. Because if he keeps hitting like this, you can't send Mercedes down. Does Collins become the odd man out?

Then who would be the back-up catcher? That makes no sense. Hamilton or Vaughn if he's not getting at-bats anymore.

That's the theory but time is the truthteller. I'm 1 against 100. Just like with Peavy, Dunn, Laroche, Sale, Encarnacion, and more recently, Nelson Cruz.

We have a 5 year window, not 1. So extend him. That will shut me up. Then I can move on bellyaching that Keuchel is a disaster waiting to happen. Watched him now for a year+ and still can't figure out how he lasts even those 5 innings a game that he throws pumpkins.
