This Baltimore series made me cringe. Cleveland will be the last barometer. if they lose the series, they'll fire sale. Say sayonara to Dye.

So because one team completed an improbable comeback in a weak division, it is logical to assume that another team, one that has ranked among the worst in baseball for over a calendar year now, will suddenly turn things around and overtake much stronger competition? OK.

78 games remaining. Approximately. I'll call the season over when they're down by more games than are remaining. I am, after all, a Cubs fan at heart.

I may be a tool sometimes, but you apparently can't write very clearly a lot of the time.

Not sure how you missed the point of what I said. Perhaps you should read rather than skim.

You also made this point about the Sox:

Quote:
It's too early for me to count them out with the amount of division games remaining. Maybe I'm just optimistic, but right now, I would hate to see a white flag sale. that being said, something must be done with this bullpen.

When you introduced the Astros example, I thought you were using it to buttress your earlier point, albeit in an unclear manner. Now you're telling me you were actually trying to undercut your own previous assertion?

If that's the case, then I hereby retract my statement about your unclear writing. You writing is indeed perfectly clear when you're contradicting yourself.

Tallest Tool, I am standing by my posts. I said

Quote:
It's too early for me to count them out with the amount of division games remaining

which is fairly accurate, as the Sox have 12 games remaining against Cleveland and 14 against Detroit. Lots of divisional games. You can't count any team out until they're eliminated.

I also said

Quote:
I'll call the season over when they're down by more games than are remaining

which further supports my earlier post.

I'm joshing with this comment:
Quote:
But they're only 10 under. Where was the Astros at this time in 05? I know I know I'm sick of hearing that too. The Astros had 1/5th the talented teams in the division that the Sox have, don't they.

but I am specifically BOLDING the part where I stress that it is not the same situation or circumstances, by saying that the level of competition is much higher in the AL central than in the NL central (even though the last two teams in the WS from the NL were from the Central, but I digress.

It is you who is the ball lickers!

So again, you're saying the White Sox aren't out of it, but it's illogical to assume they'll make a comeback?

I have no doubt that you're "standing by your posts" since they say everything and nothing simultaneously. Quite an achievement.

I will say it in small words for you.

No. It is too early to say it is over. There are too many games left. It has been done before, albeit in a weaker division. I would never count a team out when they have more division games remaining against the teams ahead of them than they are games back.
There have been many cases, many recently in fact, where a team 10 or more games out in July has made it to the October games. Do I need to spell them out for you?

The race for the White Sox is over, and has been over. They would need to go on a ridiculous run to have a chance, and this team hasn't shownn the ability to get on a streak other than the road trip to TB and KC. They just aren't a good team.

You are probably correct. remember that I am a Cub fan, and that I've seen the famous 69 Mets run.
My personal opinion is that it is dangerous to call a team out of it.

You're contradicting yourself again. The White Sox are 13.5 behind Cleveland with only 12 games against them remaining. So by your logic, they're done, then, correct?

So because the '69 Mets overtook the Cubs, it's logical to assume the Sox will come back? :P

Yes, I am contridicting myself becasue they only play games against Cleveland and Detroit for the rest of the season and any games against KC and games against TB or Texas do not count in the standings.

Creating controversy where it does not exist aren't you Tall Tool?
Do you proof read your ramblings before you post them?

Although you've been on this board too long to be a rookie of the year candidate, you've definitely got my early vote for MVP this summer.

Umm, you should read your posts before making them. According to your logic, it's only head-to-head games against teams ahead of them that matter for the Sox. You put it rather succinctly when you offered the following gem:

Quote:
It is too early to say it is over. There are too many games left. It has been done before, albeit in a weaker division. I would never count a team out when they have more division games remaining against the teams ahead of them than they are games back.

Or are you now disavowing this comment, too?

To summarize, then, you are optimistic about the White Sox's chances, although it's illogical to believe they'll move back into contention. Further, you also hold that the White Sox's status as contenders is supported by the fact that their deficit in the standings to Cleveland, Minnesota and Detroit is smaller than the number of games remaining against each time, even though they are 13.5 games behind the Tribe with only 12 games yet to play against them.

OK, I've learned a lot here. Thanks for the lesson in logical consistency.

Well, at least your consistent with your insults. I guess that'll have to do since you're apparently unable to be consistent about anything else. Good work.

So by your logic, the Cubs are also out of it becuase they have only 3 games remaining against the Brewers and they are 3.5 out?

Now you're just getting pathetically desperate to vindicate yourself. I never offered an opinion on the validity of your belief that the Sox are still contending because their deficit in the standings to Cleveland, Detroit and Minnesota is less than the number of games remaining against each team. Rather, I was simply pointing out that your assertion, in Cleveland's case, is demonstrably false, and therefore, by your logic, the Sox cannot be considered a contender.

Yeah, I've got a response to that. What?
So you're pretty much arguing against yourself. You're not making any sense. Later!
