I think that's something MLB would have to consider: I was perfectly comfortable putting the sport on the shelf this year because of the Sox. I have plenty of things to fill up my summers.

I'm out if they move as well. I'm targeting the Mariners as my new follow.

My dad was a huge (football) Cardinals fan before the left Chicago. He hated the Bears. That changed pretty quickly.

I would not become a Cubs fan--that's a different dynamic. But I know I would care about Nashville as much as my dad cared for the St. Louis Cardinals. I'd be out as well.


There are still some Cardinals fans here and there. I used to work with a guy who was a huge White Sox fan who also still wore Cardinals gear and followed the team, even though they had moved twice since he became a fan.


There are more than a few south siders who are Packers fans because they couldn't stomach the Cardinals moving and hated the Bears because of the Cardinals-Bears rivalry

I think JR saw the deal that the Angelos family did with the new owner, where the owner bought a small share right away with an option to buy the rest of the franchise upon the old man's death.

It's probably better to have Jerry negotiate than his kid.

Also, if Dave Stewart's group buys it, TLR will be involved somehow, which would make Jerry happy

I used to get so annoyed with the whole high-handed "unlike Cubs fans, we're actually there to see the game" thing. Add "unlike Cubs fans, we demand a winner" and you have the entirety of 2000s Cubs/Sox attendance discourse. Well, I hope the demand for a winner translates into games they're there to see. And maybe there has to be more to it than just seeing a game. Fortunately, there's ample real estate around the existing park to create something.

This is where sinicalypse would come in to remind us of how the commissioner's office forbade the 2003 Expos from making callups to the expanded September roster and helped them fade down the stretch.
