Right. These are some amazing records that nobody knows about.

For example. People remember guys hitting for cycles. Cycles are a weird thing.

What's better? Hitting a cycle or hitting two homers and two triples in a game. Obviously the ladder but it's not the cycle so nobody will ever remember that game because we don't have a name for that type of game.

I think the fact that nobody has done this since 1972 speaks for itself. The record could easily stand for more another 30 years or longer. The `1 inning` specialist thing is a dumb argument to me. Theres a reason nobody has been able to do it in the past 30 years, it is a tremendous accomplishment deserving of being mentioned in the same breath as almost any other record in the game regardless of who will remember it a year from now

Even if you don't like the 1 inning closer it still doesn't take away from the record.

It's still 41 straight innings if he does it 1 at a time or 3 at a time.

Record stood for 35 years and Jenks became the 2nd guy in 120 years to do this. That kind of speaks for itself.

Who's gonna be up to watch Bobby break the record. Ozzie will probably drag his fat ass out at around 12:00am tonight?

Couldn't ask for a better ball park to try for the record. Foul territory in Oakland is a mile long. He could get a cheap out that way. Not an easy place to hit homers either.

Now THAT would be impressive!

Innings not batters. That would be impressive.

While you may be right about the tangibles of the park, Oakland Coliseum has been a house of horrors for the White Sox for as long as I've been alive; bad things invariably go happen there.

Yeah. But I think the Sox were there earlier this year and took 2 out of 3.

So you're saying it won't be a save situation ?

I'm saying that I will not be surprised if it is a save situation, and Jenks not only snaps his streak, but also screws el pooch for the game as well. The last game Garland started in Oakland was a gem, and a combination of Jenks' pitching and Pods' Jose Canseco impersonation in left field in the 9th led to a comback victory for the A's. I'm in no way stating that that incident has any sort of causal relationship in it happening one way or the other tonight, but there is no denial of a long and uncomfortable history of weird, bad things happening in Oakland.

Fabulous example!

Great Job by Jenks!

Assuming Shingo Takasu "Mr. Zero" was even close to what he was in 2004, would the Sox even have ever picked this guy up?

Even for the lousy 20,000$ and if Kenny Loved him so much and knew how good he could be, they couldn't pry him off the Angels roster for a Jon Rauch? or Rocky something, or Neil Cots?

All the credit in the world to Jenks! and Even Cooper! but for Kenny Williams to blow smoke about him wanting this guy, PLEASE!

It was May, you had no closer and you took a chance that you would have never taken if you had a closer you liked.

Jesus Christ Big Fan. Some guys come out of no where.

Hey, remember your great 89 Cubs. I'm sure you celebrate that divison winning team with your buddies.

Nobody expected Jerome Walton and Dwight Smith to have the seasons they had. Are you gonna give back the Division trophy? Oh wait they don't give trophies for divisions.

Alright Big Fan you have shamed me into it. I don't count the 2005 World Series. It shouldn't have happened. You win.

Jenks was picked up on 12/17/2004 not during the 2005 season.
No one knew that Shingo would suck at that point, and no one else jumped on the Jenks bandwagon.
Also, don't forger Hermanson saved 20 games that year.
Jenks was the 3rd closer the Sox used.
Get it straight Bigfan.

Bigfan is one of my alltime favorite posters. I usually agree with his views...except for KW. Bigfan has some deep seeded views on the man and I am desperate to take him out for a beer to hear the genesis.

Techinicalities.

he was still signed off Waivers. Off seaosn or not, he was so good, he didn't head North with the team until July?

Either way, if jenks cost more than $20K, KW doesn't sign him.

Beardown made an excellent point with Andre Dawson. For a GM to come out and brag what a great job they might have done in getting Andre, that is bullshit as well, but yet does not take away from the players accomplishments, just like the entire 2005 team.

Let me ask another question.

Who did KW want as his manager?_____________ (HINT: Not Ozzie)

Congratulations, I think you're about to break the CSFMB record for the most consecutive idiotic posts in a single thread, though tmurf seems to rising to the occasion in the General Discussion section as well.

he was never a reliever until the white sox signed him. so he was learning how to pitch from the bullpen for half a season. he did great when it mattered in october though, so i couldnt give 2 shits when he joined the team.

Hermanson saved 32 games in 2005, and it was only due to injury that he lost his job. and thats not a knock on jenks, thats just bad luck for hermanson.

It was half in jest. Kind of making fun myself for love I've been giving Bobby. I don't know what's idiotic about it. I just said it's the perfect ball park for a pitcher.

I will watch it and I hope he gets it. I like milestones and records for Sox players. Sorry if that offends you Midget.

Was Hermanson's injury just bad luck, like Dye's injury this year? or Podds Injury? or Erstad? or Thome?

These guys have been injured most of their careers. This is why they get traded or released. If yoiu catch them all during a healthy stretch, fabulous, just don't tell me as the GM you did anything special outside of taking a chance they get healthy.

hey, I wish the Cubs signed Dye instead of Jeremy Burnitz, as you do need to take chances as a GM and thus GET LUCKY.

Cito Gaston.

I would not call JR forcing him to interview Ozzie luck, as I don't consider Ozzie anything but an average MLB manager.

How many times does a guy have to be "lucky" before you start to call him good? If Billy Beane or Theo Epstein made the moves KW did they would be declared divine beings by the baseball elite.

or if his beloved cubbies happened upon some good luck for a change. everbopdy remembers bartman and "the curse" from 2003, but nobody seems to mention how mark prior melted down, gonzalez's error, dusty not making a pitching change, and blowing a lead in game 7. but the cubs lost the 2003 NLCS because they were cursed, not because the marlins were the better team..
