Jeff Weaver was 3-10 with a 6.29 ERA for the Angels this year, all before July 5.

If I'm not mistaken, he just registered 9 strikeouts in 8 innings, allowed 1 earned run and won the World Series for the team he was traded to for minor leaguer Terry Evans.

Kudos to Walt Jockety for envisioning what Weaver could do. Kudos to Dave Duncan, the best pitching coach in baseball, for helping him do it.

I've never seen a bigger butcher in the outfield.

I'm glad Cards won, because (a) Tigers didn't and (b) it rubs Cub fans the wrong way.

Hate to bust your theory, but this Cubs fan is perfectly at peace with the Cards winning. If the Cubs can't, let it be the team my wife and her family follows.
Being happy that Cubs fans might be upset about the outcome of a WS they're not even in is kinda funny. I've seen alot of it and it amazes me. Your team won the WS. That should be sufficient to overcome an inferiority complexes...or not.

Cubs fans that wanted Weaver forgot one tiny little detail. Rothschild can't hold a candle next to Duncan. It pains me to say it, but Duncan is brilliant. He couldn't save Ponson from immolating his career, but Duncan has turned alot of mediocre talent into very good performers over his career.

Can I crown your ass?

You should have included my Weaver comment.

Still, for all the Weaver love, I would not want to gamble on his success next year.

I don't know GD. He seems to have found the movement on his fastball he had as a young pitcher. He's going to be a very wanted man this off season.

2006 Weaver = 2004 Derek Lowe

I'd take Lowe over Weaver in a heartbeat.

Not only does Weaver have a long history of bad pitching, he also has a motion that makes him very suceptible to injury (in other words he is a perfect Cub). I would question anyone giving him a long term contract. He was not even very good for the Cardinals. He just had a nice playoff run.

2006 proves you right dolphin, but remember Lowe was a headcase most of 2004 after a terrible 2003 playoff.
He was 14-12 with a 5.5 era & his 1.6 whip killed my fantasy team.

Than he had a great run in the playoffs and turned it into a big $$.

Some pitching starved team like the Rangers or the Orioles will be all over Weaver this summer hoping that Duncan turned him around for good.

I could see the Orioles as they are stupid and need to have Mazzone earn his salary. I think it is much more likely he tries to stick in the National League. I have no doubt that any success that he had is at least partially attributable to being in a much weaker division.
