So let's spin this story on to the Ricketts and Cubs fans??? Never mind about the deal Reinsdorf has with Illinois and how that impacts the state and the tax payers.

That isn't what this topic was about. It was another boring attendance championship thread.

I'm not "in tune" to other posters and their angles. I read the original post....it was about Sox attendance, ticket prices, and the mention of no ticket fees being paid to ISFA. Subsequent posts turned into the same Cubs-Sox BS and, as you say, attendance championship crap. I think you agree that attendance championship arguments are worthless. What stirs me up is the deal(s) that Jerry gets from the state. Compare that to what I perceive is the push back on Rickett's when they are trying to maximize revenue streams. So it's ok for jerry but not ok for ricketts? The owners are all trying to increase their bottom lines through whatever means they can. Rickett's is trying to get it from his fan base & USE his "precious" Wrigley field....Jerry is just getting his too from his fan base and the state of Illinois.

I'm not trying to stick up for Rickett's, or any other owner. They are all playing the game.

So what? Because one guy scammed the taxpayers you should support another guy doing so because you pull for the team he owns? That's ridiculous. And this notion that Ricketts just wants to be left alone to do business is absurd. He's looking for all kinds of tax breaks and to annex city streets.

Exactly. I'm not arguing for either. This is what owners do....but Sox fans just want to jump on Ricketts and not acknowledge "their" scammer. Anytime it comes up...it gets deflected to Ricketts. This story...the original post is about the Sox, their lack of attendance, their marketing efforts, etc....That's it!!!

Well it was more in a "ha-ha" sense than a "what can be done"

am i the only one here who actually likes low white sox attendance so that way i always have plenty of room to move around when i go to the games for dirt cheap?

at cubs/dodgers a couple'a saturdays ago i had a ticket to get in and my uncle was trying to get the cheapest upper deck ticket possible (targeting $10) just to get in the ballpark so we could sit together. the scalper business dudes right by the starbucks on addison tried telling us that the cheapest UD ticket was $45 (while everyone else was quoting $20-25) because "you know, it's saturday it's nice weather its the dodgers... lots of demand" we said that we'd catch up with him later and he told us and i quote: "it was a pleasure NOT doing business with you"

about 35mins later when my uncle scored two row 4 section 4 tickets for $25/each off of some dude outside the stadium, he deterred me from going back up to that scalper business guy's face and shoving that ticket in his face and saying "it was a pleasure NOT doing business with you" --- i really really really wanted to, but hey i ended up talking arsenal with somebody else outside of the stadium for 15mins anyways.

so yeah TL;DR = the white sox have their charm. just as long as the team stays in chicago i don't care if only 4k of you showup every day, that just means it's an all around easier time for me to have a better day without you.

No. Reinsdorf takes heat on this board all the time. And the original post had nothing to do with the dirty deals Reinsdorf has bullied out of government. It was simply another dumb White Sox attendance post by the second biggest Cubs fan at CSFMB.

So, we are in agreement. Reinsdorf and Ricketts are both wealthy, quasi-criminal scumbags. You are just upset that the one who owns the team you hate is better at it.

Now that is a point I can not argue with! Fact! I would even go so far as to say "Far Superior". :P

If you don't like the headline send your complaint to Crain's the headline is verbatim how it was on Crain's.

As to your inference of second biggest Cubs fan... I would say I have been to more Sox games at the Cell this season then most of the so called fans that post here.... I went to six games and had tickets for the last game but instead went to the Bears Packers game....

I had been a Sox season ticket holder way before I ever had Cubs tickets and kept them for over 15 years. My tickets were personal and not a business expense.

How many games did you go to ? How long have you had season tickets?

I am sorry if you do not understand that the revenue streams that actual game attendance can and do generate have an impact on team budgets. If the attendance at the games continues it's death spiral the signs will not generate the same revenue. Fewer eyeballs equal less ad revenue. Ask the news papers how that works.

The Sox and Brooks Boyer have tried everything as is pointed out in the article. Lower prices, reduced parking cost and special promotions have not driven more butts into the seats. All Stars like Sale and Abreu have not brought out the fans. A team that was in contention at the break still had no impact. A month long Paulie good-bye little impact. The Red Line is up and running.

Look at the business side and then ask the question...How do we (White Sox) get more fans into the seats?

JORR you are a businessman if this was your business what do you do? how do you reverse the trend?

I would start with new faces/voices for the team on both TV and Radio. Ask "The Chairman" to take a lower profile. Tell Kenny to never ever mention or talk about "if you come out we will spend" in fact put Kenny in a box.

He already is pretty low-profile. He basically only communicates through press releases. But changing the broadcasting dynamic is never going to happen as long as Reinsdorf is alive. He's obsessed with his strange concept of what a baseball broadcast is supposed to be. I don't understand why he is, but he is.

I got rid of my Sox season tickets this year. Before that I had them from 2006-2013. Before that I had them from 2002-2004. I had a partial package in '05 that I bought at the last minute. It didn't include World Series tickets so I had to pay $700 for Game 1. I still made at least 20 games at Sox Park this season. I also have 1/8 of a season package at Wrigley. I made about 6 games over there this year. I sit right in front of Billy and Ernie.

Attendance and payroll are largely unrelated. all you have to do is look at the Cubs to understand that.

only in the sense that an owner can way overspend if he's crazy enough and way underspend if he wants to be more profitable. Those two things (attendance and payroll) are interrelated, the two things I mentioned are the exceptions that prove the rule.

I think fundamentally there is smaller pool to draw from. I'm not sure if Brooks & Co. have addressed that. For example, using this board as a proxy I'm curious why the Sox don't own NWI. Hank, cp guy and MiTC are all Cubs fans. That area should be considered the Sox backyard. Yes, America, I realize they own the Portland market.

No...no...no...let's worry about the Rickett's and them trying to upgrade a crappy old ballpark and put up god-forbidden advertising signs and a jumbo tron! for shame!!!

I noticed during one of the "Pauly" clips I saw recently and I glanced at the outfield backdrop......Pepsi, Ford, Miller Lite, and about three other prominate advertising signs...big ass signs....but please dont let Ricketts & the cubs have any. They are greedy.

This story is about shitty sox attendance. What's new?

The White Sox play in a concrete hell only buoyed by the fact that their food options are unparalleled by anyone in the league. I dont like the corporate branding, but what's being destroyed was never worth saving (or building) in the first place. The Cell has spent its existence wavering between "scary-looking" and "actively repulsive". It also exists on the south side of Chicago, which gets a lot of bad press.

Let me say it a better way. Yes, there is a correlation between payroll and attendance. But that's likely because attendance rises when a team wins and a winning team generally necessitates a higher payroll.

Jerry said it best:

Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said last month that he's not bothered by another dropoff in ticket sales, which are down 26 percent since 2010.

"When the product merits it, people will come out," he said.

Like I said--Sox own the city and the Cubs own a much more valuable blob of Midwest territory the winds itself around less-dominant MLB markets.

I grew up on the north side and a vast majority of kids at my HS that gave a fuck about baseball (and I mean any fuck whatsoever) were White Sox fans. I always thought it was because the Cubs represent everything native Chicagoans hate (suburbanites, transplants from out of state, gentrifiers) while the Sox do have some sort of weird street cred for being less popular with those demographics. The old joke right? Told verbatim, 'how many burritos does it take to flip over a car? we'll know if the Cubs win the WS.' Cubs are not particularly liked by these people.

I want to let it be known now that I did not hate suburbanites (I acutally like them) and only mildly disliked people who moved to Chicago from Appleton WI or w/e. I was raised a White Sox fan from birth.

When I preface a quote with 'told verbatim' it typically means I'm recounting it for you. Not that I subscribe to it.

then i've got one piece of advice for you: never move to new york. the transplants there.... holy shit dude that's a whole 'nother world of the best of the best and brightest from armpit, nebraska coming to "the big city" to "make it" and then tell you about how great and awesome new york: THE GREATEST CITY IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD is.

seriously, it's a pastime for those people. i had some guy during my 3pm heineken and pastrami try telling me "well where do you think all of your little chicago street hustles originated from?" kind of "heh heh"ing me like i had to admit that NYC was my cultural daddy, and i blew his fucking mind when i matter-of-factly answered "europe?" and he kind of had to nod in agreement.

Like I said--Sox own the city and the Cubs own a much more valuable blob of Midwest territory the winds itself around less-dominant MLB markets.

What the hell are you talking about? You think owning Peoria, Rockford and Des Moines is more valuable than Chicago and its suburbs? You said they own Cook County. I disagree with that 100%.

Cook County: 5,194,675
Iowa (State): 3,074,00
DuPage County: 916,924
Lake County: 703,462
Will County: 677,560
Kane County: 515,269
McHenry County: 308,760

Chicago's population is apparently estimated to be 2.715M.

Holy hell do you never make any sense.
