One of the obvious shortcomings for the White Sox rebuild is that it can't just be with young players. It's not always true, but I think it's generally helpful, to have lineups with actual impactful hitters to provide protection, put pressure on the pitching staff, allow a hitter to bat with runners on base, etc.

The White Sox aren't fielding a team with that in mind. They are signing retreads who are, at best, end of bench options.

I understand it doesn't make sense to give someone a 10 year contract if you expect to be bad for 3-4 seasons, but that's a losing mindset. There's no way any rebuilding should require the type of teardown that doesn't put resources into the major league roster.

Talent is still talent, but this can't be helpful to have younger players coming up without veteran difference makers in the lineup.

They have a really good structure for pitching, but their approach on the offensive side is not.

They’re not even doing the thing where they maybe overpay a vet on a short term deal in the hopes of flipping him for prospects at the deadline.

They’re barely fielding a team at this point with no obvious plan of how they’ll field a team over the medium term.

When you have MVP candidate Luis Robert in your lineup every day, are you ever really out of it though?

Exactly. They are signing end of bench (being generous) type options. I don't know the candidates, but it would have made sense to overpay on a 1 year deal with someone to produce here, but then trade later.

They are banking everything on their younger offensive talent. Quero, Chase, Teel will all be here....Vargas seems to be improving. They are probably hoping Vaughn, Benitendi and Robert (for now) will be the veterans, but Robert/Vaughn are awful. Robert could (but guessing) benefit from a change in scenery but they aren't going to get value.

Never draft a 5’9” first baseman with warning track power in the top 10.

I can't stand the Bulls uniforms, but the White Sock logo is sweet. Such a great secondary logo, in all its forms.

Anytime you incorporate a sock, it's a winner. I can't stand we haven't changed uniforms in 30 years. It's part our history changing them every 5 years.

Those eyes are freaky as hell. He looks deranged.

I saw they optioned both of their first baseman and are going to have Vargas and Sosa play first.

Most of the position players shouldn't be starting regularly in the bigs, but at least they can win a game now and then. Still only on pace to win 51, so....it's still sad. Not seeing anything really to build on in terms of younger position players, except Chase.

A pretty horrendous start with a 8 and a 6 game losing streak. Not going to cream my pants over a 13-19 record since, but it isn't embarrassing. I mean, their record is the same as Baltimore's. The pitching is middle of the road, the throwing strikes thing is improving. More than a puncher's chance to win 63.

You really think Chase is something to build on?

Maybe a nice role player. A grindy leadoff hitter. But something to build on? Idk.

the Sox have suddenly become a good home team.

Not only are they winning, but they are constantly coming from behind.

Used to be that when a team got up on 'em early, it was over.

Just tied up at 2.

I'm not sure that's a player you build around, but he's, so far, looking like a good complementary player. If he's able to get on base at the rate he's doing, he'll be a good piece for the next 4-5 years until they have to pay him.

He's the over loved, grindy, white second baseman that makes Bernstein's head explode

Looks more like a version of Madrigal than a long term piece. four doubles and one homer in 115 abs not good.

He's fine. Chase can be a solid player on a good team. He is not a franchise cornerstone.

I don't care how many times Elko struck out, he should not be in Charlotte. Let him learn how to face big league pitching at the big league level. If he doesn't or can't figure it out by this time next year, you move on.

In an organization that has dozens of prospects who have failed to meet expectations, Andrew Vaughn might be the worst of them all. Man does he flat out suck.

You snooze you lose. Got the Mets at +260 on the money line after the Sox went up 5-0. Now 5-3.
