You should make sure that is accurate before rolling your eyes. If I claimed that JORR's barber told me that Machado was going to the Yankees I would have a better than 50% chance of being right. It's the place everyone expects him to go. Fact is no one else is reporting the same thing.

FWIW, Steve Phillips had the Sox as the frontrunner for Harper as of Friday.

Bryce Harper to the Sox is orders of magnitude less likely to happen than even Machado to Sox which was a small enough possibility.

I think it’s more likely Harper will be back with the Nats. They like interesting contracts and I think Harper would only leave if the money was too much to turn down. And I just don’t see teams giving out a contract like what was expected anymore.

I don't know. If the Dodgers and Cubs have to move contracts just to get in the bidding they probably aren't going to be in the best position to outbid the Sox. I can't see Boras leaving a 15%+ premium on the table to sign with another team.

Are they really not interested in shorter deals? 5yrs, $150-175mil?

I don't think either was a strong possibility, but Machado has been linked to NYY early on. Harper has been linked to various teams over the past few weeks.

Exactly. They will "sign" a 10 year deal for some crazy yearly average (probably north of $30M, and maybe closer to $40M) with options to enter free agency. If I'm the White Sox, and Harper wants to opt-out after 3-4 years, fine by me. That probably means he's doing well and thinks he can make more money.
