They sure are and they'll come calling tomorrow. If the Rockies and Cardinals hang on tonight the cubs would be 3 games back going into that series. Ouch babe.

i fully expect that. but then, i never thought this team was going to go anywhere anyway. even if they make the playoffs, they'd bow out again for the 3rd year straight, no doubt being swept again. they have proven all year they can't compete with the elite teams.

It's a poorly constructed team, that has had a multitude of injuries that have made it even more difficult to win. With Aramis Ramirez, the Cubs are 9 games over .500 and a far better team. That injury alone has had dramatic effect. But almost every addition Hendry made this past winter (Bradley, Miles, Heilman, and Gregg) have been bad or at least a step down from the guys who did their job in 2008. I don't know if they will get swept, if/when they make the playoffs again in 2009, but I don't feel anywhere near as good about the 2009 edition of the franchise as I had the 2008 team. But this team has done VERY well at home and thats where they get the Phillies in this upcoming series. Looking forward to the Wednesday pairing of Jeff Samardzija vs Pedro Martinez. Either could be good or get hammered in their first major league start of the 2009 season. But neither is likely to go much past the 5th, if they get that far.
