Not really. Anderson is still a big problem at short despite the batting title. Have we forgotten his infatuation with "Batty" and Hall of Famer Adam Engel?

Tim Anderson has to win the batting title basically every year to be a positive offensive player. He never walks, and he's not a power hitter.

What's also lost in the batting title talk is that he had 26 errors in 120 games. He would have had 35 in a normal season. That's a ton of strain on your pitching staff.

Right. I didn't want them to sign Machado, but if you target him as the guy you have to have, you can't let the Padres take him from you.

Well said. It hurt the franchise how they went about the negotiations(me and you argued about it in January) and their comments after the failure. He was ripe for the picking early on and basically let SD come into the picture. Bad, but I could live with that. It was the irrational explanation afterwords that infuriated me.

So say he loses some of his batting average but gets better on defense and plays a full season. That's probably roughly the same amount of contribution overall as he had this year.

I don't think that Anderson will ever be a good defensive short-stop and I have said before that he should be an outfielder where his speed and arm would be well suited. That being said, he will get better defensively and will start drawing more walks. His power numbers will also improve as he matures.

He also would have had 30 HRs had he not gotten hurt.

He had 18 in 123 games but would have had 12 in the 27 games he missed? ROTFLMAO.

His power was definitely affected by the injury.

He has 26 errors, but 18, 26 who’s counting?

He might have hit 25 at the most.

He's not going to get better on defense. He's not a MLB caliber short-stop.

18 home runs, not 18 errors.

Yes. His slugging percentage was 50 points higher after the injury.

He was on pace for 26 before the injury and his isolated power was 174 before the injury compared to 175 after the injury.

Math. It works.

You’ve threatened to throw yourself off the Sears Tower a couple times lately. What’s stopping you? What do you have to lose? It would certainly improve your lot in life.

Little Frankie likes to count a lot. He can probably tell you how many times Renteria on this board was spoken. Perhaps little Frankie had to go board the short bus a lot for remedial math because he sure is hung up on some strange things.

You do not know that. He is a world class athlete who did not play baseball at an early age. He will get better on defense. That much is clear. Part of it will be positioning and part of it will be practicing at the position and the mechanics involved.

He will because that's what players that have a lot of pride in themselves do. Anderson clearly has a lot of pride in himself, maybe even a bit too much. He made an amazing improvement in the offensive numbers and will not want his image downgraded over-all. He wants to succeed and will work to make himself better. THe big thing that I see wrong with him defensively is his footwork and balance. This will take quite a bit of work to clean up but isn't unusual considering the limited amount of time he has played the game.
