I get that you like to play dumb, but I know you're not that dumb.

One game doesn't tell you anything. But if Cease pitches the same way he did tonight against 33 various and sundry guys and comes out with a losing record and the Sox have a better than average offense, then maybe there's something more than luck involved.

When you can only last five innings you put the game in the hands of other guys. There's no such thing as "run support." Valdez didn't lack "run support." Saying he did is an insult to Cease's effort. He ran up against a guy who pitched his ass off. And vice versa.

You people realize the Astro are the defending WS Champs, right? Even Dusty Baker could not f@ck them up last year. They are a good team.

Yeah. Their lineup is at least a little better than the Sox. Alvarez was the best hitter in the game. Cease had a tougher job than Valdez.

Ugly win. Cease was terriffic.

He put them in a position to lose. Lucky he got bailed out by Lopez.

Starting pitchers should have the mentality that JORR speaks of. But in reality, it's not how the pitching life actually is and nobody else on the team thinks that way nor do the fans. JORR must've have been Christy Matthewson in his prior life.

Cease has won games at a .581 clip in his career.

True. A starting pitcher's primary job is to prevent the opposition from scoring at least until his team scores. The team that scores first wins almost 70% of the time.

The fans are stupid. They read shit written by people as dumb as they are on the Internet and regurgitate it. That's why they talk about fake concepts like "run support" which is really just the fewer number of runs allowed by the pitcher(s) opposing the guy they are insisting is so great. They act as if a pitcher's performace exists in a vaccuum rather than the only place it actually does exist which is within the context of the singular game in which it was created.

I think it’s fair to say that Cease did less to help the Sox win tonight when compared to the Astros bullpen. Cease isn’t so much a good pitcher as other pitchers are worse than he is.

Cease pitched well until he didn’t. Luckily we got guys like Bummer and Lopez that know how to clean up after him

All this in a game of bloopers, bleeders, errors, popups in the seats by Pesky's Pole and above the Green Monster and the Crawford Boxes, and various other defensive blunders. Need to pitch over shit, as they say on the internet. Ks and line outs right at guys will stop the randomness.

Sure, there's a lot of luck in the game. No one denies that. Nobody get unlucky for a career though, and rarely for an entire year.

Roberto Clemente seemed pretty unlucky and it ended his entire career

He played 18 years. I'm pretty sure his career was almost over anyway.

I think Bummer is tipping some of his pitches. His issue is that he can't throw his sweeper for a strike and hitters lay off of it and sit on his fastball. If I were Bummer, I'd be working on lessening the break on his sweeper or throwing it a bit harder?

Cease pitched a terrific game. Seldom do you see a guy throwing three great pitches for strikes. Shame he didn't get the win but the other guy was great also.
Romy looks like a keeper and Colas had a nice at bat. They left a helluva lot of guys on base but Vaughn redeemed himself with a great hit.
