Isn't that how the EPL works when team refuses to be competitive? Sounds like a great idea. |

Cubs highest overall picks since 2012: 6, 2, 4, 9 Sox highest overall picks since 2012: 13, 17, 3, 8, 10 The Cubs averaged a 5-6th pick overall, the Sox have averaged 10-11th. In reality, picks 3-15 tend (not very well, though) to be interchangeable. However, a #2 overall pick (like the cubs had in 2013 and turned into Kris Bryant) tends to be much more valuable than the next grouping of picks, and the Sox have only ever climbed as high as 3rd overall (Rodon). |

Cubs avg=25 Sox avg = 10.2 Rodon was the consenus 1-1 pick going into the season ..he slipped a little but was skipped by Houston who instead took Brady Aiken who had agreed to a deal. The Marlins also took a HS pitcher Tyler Kolek. Having Boras as his agent did not help Rodon. If you seriously think that there is no difference between 3 and 15 you are not being realistic 2010: Manny Machado #3 Jake Skole #15 Machado easy 2011: Trevor Bauer #3 Jed Bradley #15 Bauer easy 2012: Mike Zunino #3 Tyler Naquin #15 a wash at this point 2013: Jon Gray #3 Braden Shipley #15 Gray easy 2014: Carlos Rodon #3 Sean Newcomb #15 Rodon easy 2015: Brendan Rodgers #3 Trent Clark #15 Rodgers ranked #40 by BA Clark #49... too early to call |

Not clearly, undoubtedly the same, but tending towards that. There is a precipitous drop-off in talent as you progress pick-by-pick in the first round. Of course you would much rather be picking at #3 than #10-15, but you would much, much, much rather be picking at #2. |

Good reading. |

Good reading. that is revisionist history. They blew away expectations last year. And as I have heard than enough from sox nation, they were simply a third place team in the central. The other problem I have with the Cubs not going for it. I'm on my phone so I can't post it. Go look up Cubs sox payrolls. They never diverge by more than five million dollars. When Cubs cut payroll so did the sox. Last, regarding the gap in 2 and 3. That is completely draft dependent. Bryant wasn't a consensus pick at 2. There were no true top prospects that draft. And the sox didn't get shorted at three. That was a three player draft. The Cubs went under slot at 4 because of that. You can just admit it, theo can draft. I remember being pissed the sox got Rodon while the Cubs got a fat kid from Indiana. Hail theo. |

Sure, the Sox try to win each year. They just aren't very good at putting a team together. They draft and develop position players poorly, sign mostly older players past their prime and are afraid to truly rebuild, because their fans lack the loyalty to allow the team that option. Instead they try to catch lightning in a bottle year after year and it's just not working. |
