Post subject:  Ventura on the hot-seat

So says Jon Heyman:

Robin Ventura is coming under fire in Chicago, and some White Sox people are starting to wonder whether a change could be coming, or maybe even warranted.

As one White Sox-connected person put it, things are “not great” regarding Ventura’s stats.

Ventura is well-respected within the organization, but as the team has imploded, going from its terrific 23-10 start to .500, there’s starting to be talk among those in the know that Ventura’s status could be affected.

When Ventura was hired, he was seen as the perfect guy, as he was the “anti Ozzie,” a low-key guy who wasn’t looking to steal the spotlight and act like a prima donna. But the team hasn’t performed great since Ventura’s first year.

In 2012, Ventura’s first season as manager, the team finished 85-77. Since, they’ve won just 63, 73, and 76 games, respectively. His contract expires at the end of this season.

Nobody believes it’s necessarily Ventura’s fault but there is a growing feeling, even among some with the team, that it might not hurt to do something. “I think patience has been showed,” one White Sox person said. General manager Rick Hahn declined to comment at this time.

Who knows, maybe he bombs out in the interviews, but why not Dave Martinez?

Reinsdorf will let him stay through the end of the year no matter how hot his seat gets.

...and in other news the sun went down at about 9pm tonight. be sure to check back tomorrow cuz you know they say about people and the word "assume" right?

(honestly, right now firing robin ventura would be like firing a janitor because people always shit on the floor. your only hope is that everyone likes the new janitor so much that they try way harder to not shit on the floor so s/he doesn't have to deal with that shit)

At some point you have to do something to shake things up -- not saying he deserves to be fired, but are you going to sit around and finish in the bottom 5 attendance every year?

Reinsdorf doesn't view that as a bad thing, necessarily, because if attendance is under 1.9 million (as it has been the last three years) he doesn't pay a nickel to the State on ticket sales, just his base rent of $1.5 million, and he gets to keep all revenue from the park.

Yeah but that deal runs out in 202x sometime, right? Seems like it is inevitible the team will leave at that point. I guess you could make Ventura manager until 2020 if you want to, but I think you'd rather have an excited fan base.
