Every reporter/analyst/insider parrots the Sox have an organizational mandate of always "going for it" from Jerry.

Is time (old age) the only change between 1997 and past 4-5 years?

He dismantled a team with a closing window while now refusing to dismantle a team that never had a window.

Pretty odd for the cat that first drew the template for Theo to copy 15 years later.

No. I just don't get why he was OK with White Flag trade but now rebuilds are not allowed per his supposed orders.

Attendance dropped significantly in the two seasons after the white flag trade, and Jerry is nearing the end of the line. He doesn't want to watch a rebuild.

Im not sure there is a white flag trade to be made this year.

bigfan would have a field day in this thread. His caps lock key would probably break.

Of course there is. f they wanted to trade Sale, Cabrerra, Quintana, Robertson, Frazier and Abreau, they could stock their minor league system with a load of talent that could be making a huge difference in a year or two. In the meantime, they lose lots of games and wind up with great draft picks. it is painful in the short term, but IF they identify and acquire the right young players in trades and draft and develop the right talent as well.....just look across town and you will see the results. of course many teams have tried and are trying to employ this strategy, with many having less success with it than Theo and Jed and the scouting department who have all executed the plan very well.

That said, I don't think the Sox will do it. The fans don't support them now very well and they are trying to win. If they do a white flag again, the stands will be empty.

would be interesting to force shields contract on someone else... try to set a major league record for most # of teams paying off a bad contract

If the Yankees and Cubs are talking Schwarber for Miller I would love for the Sox to weasel their way into that deal as a 3rd team. Grab Schwarber, Aaron Judge and a midrange couple farm arms for Jose Quintana...yes fucking please.

Contract stipulations or egos might prevent it, but the solution is right there in front of the Sox.

Hire Jason McLeod and Dave Martinez and get out of the way.

Jerry is tanking to look bad so when his kid takes over and returns the team to glory (or a properly run organization) he is given all the credit.

That's what a father does for his kid.

Mcleod can find ya a hitter at the top of the draft but how's he been at finding arms?

Come on man, you wouldn't take McLeod's drafting ability right now and not look back?

Bosio would be the coach you would look to pilfer.

I could see that.

You wouldn't take McLeod?

I haven't thought about it much but Theo's two underlings strike me as guys who will not thrive in the hot seat. I don't denigrate it. In fact its admirable to understand your limitation.
