Great at losing and no decisions. 41 wins in 138 starts.

Maybe it only works for admins.

If I click "New Topic" the option to create a poll isn't there.

You forgot to add "Mediocre" to your poll.

I will once you can list all the pitchers with winning records that have the least amount of run support in baseball or have been in the bottom 7 every year of their careers.

Here is how the pitchers with the worst RS/9 shape up in W, L and FIP-:

For comparison, here is how the pitchers with the best RS/9 do in the same categories:

Interesting stuff.

A reasonable person could conclude that Pitcher W/L has almost nothing to do with actual pitcher performance.

Plot ERA's for starters and see how it comes out.....probably similar results.

If that were actually the case wouldn't there be a losing pitcher better than Matt Cain somewhere in baseball history?

Pitchers that had a combined 99.2 FIP- (just slightly better than average) were 78-127. Their teams provide 3.43 run support.

Pitchers that had a combined 93.5 FIP- (slightly better than slightly better than average) were 150-55. Their teams provide 6.70 run support.

There are three sets of statistics here. Two of them seem to be connected heavily. One seems to not move much.

This is sleight of hand using a 20 game sample. I don't believe there is a pitcher in big league history who got 6.7 runs of "support" over his career.

Since 2000, here are the top- and bottom-15 in RS/9 for their careers, with the same stats as before, and a few more for context (min. 500 IP):

There's no reason a truly good pitcher who gets 3.6-4 runs in support should have a losing record.
