I don't believe someone can truly be a die-hard fan of both teams. Not that you have to hate one or the other, but IMO there's always one that gets favored over the other.

Both of you are wrong. I was a Cubs fan first and then I became a Sox fan. Whenever they match up I root for the team that had the best chance to go to the playoffs. If both suck I don't root for anyone. I've been a baseball fan for about 30 years and I've been a fan of both teams for about 28 years. I may have shed a tear in celebration in 2005 and I imagine that the same may happen this year. People love their kids equally and I love my baseball teams equally.

I was raised to like both the Cubs & Sox - I know, it may be against the rules but it is what it is. Mom loved Cubs, Dad loved Sox. I get the best & worst of both worlds. However, I root Sox when they play each other and that will never change. Either way, BRick, start now. Instill their fandom now. My son is 100% Bears fan and I assumed his younger sister was one. She had a BF for years and is now a Green Bay because of him. He's gone but now I have a CheeseHead daughter.

A guy I know moved to Chicago from Buffalo. I told him that he could not be a Cub fan because being both a Cub and Bills fan was too much burden for any one man.

My son will be rooting for the teams I like, until he is old enough to think for himself. So, I know 1000% he will jump ship on the Redskins, and I will not fault him for a second.

I would feel the same way about my kids if they were competing against one another. I just wouldn't say it.
